ANNOUNCEMENTS: 
  • Jean-Marc announced that planning is underway for the RI President Jennifer Jones (2022-23) District 5550 visit next July.  She has asked that events planned for her visit to District 5550 would include a service project and the decision has been made to raise supplies for the homeless in Canada.  The planning committee is in the early stages of its’ work and the recommendation was that Shelter Box set up tents in high profile locations in the District, where tents are available, to collect supplies for charities that support our homeless population.  These locations are Winnipeg, Melfort, Regina, Dryden and Kenora.  
  • PDG Fred Wright announced that the next virtual District Talk Show will be held Jan. 12, 2022.  Break out rooms will be formed.​​​​​​
  • Rotary pins will be presented to the following in the near future: Jean-Marc will receive a 10 year pin and a Paul Harris Award; Ron Okumura,--a Paul Harris Award; Jeff Barber--a Paul Harris Award; a 60 year pin to Gord Wicijowski; and a 5 year pin to Jizinge Mwela.  Congratulations to all.
  • The response to the ham sale was wonderful.  Anyone wanting more hams, please contact John Van Koll and he will place an order for more.  Please get your payment for hams to treasurer, Shannon.  E-transfer is an option at treasurer@eastviewrotary.org.
  • Due to the Christmas holiday there will be no club meetings Dec. 23 or Dec. 30.
  • The speaker on January 6 will be  Rhonda Blackmore, RCMP Assistant Commissioner 

A VISIT WITH CHIEF CADMUS DELORME!

It was a pleasure to welcome Chief Cadmus Delorme from Cowessess First Nation in southern Saskatchewan.  His ancestors are from Treaty 4 territory.  He spent 2 years as a young person in the Cypress Hills area and then moved to the Crooked Lake area.  This nation encompasses many people on Cowessess, in Regina, elsewhere in Canada and beyond.  Cadmus has a masters degree in public adminis-tration.  One could listen to Cadmus a long time.  He noted "we are controlling the future as best we can."
Recent developments include the signing of the Child welfare agreement with the Prime Minister and Premier Moe on Cowessess this year; the discovery of 10% of the 160 unmarked graves in the country which means validation for indigenous people.  Admission of the truth about residential schools leads the way for reconciliation. Cadmus noted that we must all reset our compass and move forward.  What did our education system teach non-indigenous students about First Nations people?  Nothing.  Baby boomers' knowledge was gained from TV movies.
The Indian Act stifled the progress of indigenous people to move forward in any way from reserves.  Cadmus noted "we inherited this, and now we must take time to learn."

The indigenous people share many of the same beliefs as other Canadians--first they are Canadian citizens, they are concerned about climate change, renewable energy, agriculture, and a sharing of knowledge that will benefit all of us.  Cadmus is a remarkable Canadian.  He is an inspiration to all of us.  This was a wonderful program.  Thanks to Cadmus for making time in his busy schedulte to talk to us.  He noted that his Christmas will involve making a skating area and teaching his little children to skate.  He might also make a trip to Costco to do some Christmas shopping.  Best wishes for a lovely time with your family, Cadmus.
Berenice Beau
THE FAMILY OF ROTARY
  • It was wonderful to have Berenice Beau, former exchange student to Eastview in 2008, here for a short visit. She has applied for permanent residency in Canada, but in the meantime is on a student visa studying for a Post Graduate degree in Vancouver. Before her return she was ill for a time, recovered and worked part-time in France.  Prior to all of this she worked in Mexico for a year.  Nice to see you, Berenice.  Good luck with future plans.  You are always welcome at Eastview.  
  • Christmas plans-the Carlsons are off to B.C., Ann is going to her son's wedding at Lake Louise; Jean-Marc and Cheryl will be visiting their daughters in Winnipeg; Gail will be home with family; Peter Peters and Margaret will meet prior to Christmas with all of their family in Davidson to celebrate Margaret's birthday.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sergeant Richard Schwan was in the Christmas spirit today.  The topic was your favorite Christmas movie.  If your movie was on the Sergeant's list of 10 best movies (Sergeant's choice) you would receive a Rotobuck.  There were varied answers but no one selected one from the Sergeant's list.  In fact he was challenged about his list by PP Jean-Marc, which of course led to a fine for JM.  However later the Sergeant did reveal his list.  Those who were selected to voice their choice had to assign their own fine if they were wrong--a very trusting Sergeant.  Happy bucks came from Ann whose grandson Finn passed his driver's license and within minutes was over 'borrowing' Ann's car. Peter N. was happy to have Berenice visiting Eastview; Zack is happy to have his 2 older children receive their second shot next week.
