CLUB BUSINESS MEETING - APRIL 2021!

This year the 3rd Thursday of each month is set aside as the Club's monthly Business Meeting, and so today was opportunity for Club Officers and Directors to  share information which was discussed at the previous week's monthly Club Director Meeting. In the President's absence, President Elect Pat Dell provided direction as the members responsible for a specific area provided members with an update on Club activity.
    Club Administration Director, Cory Daly advised that speakers are slated until the end of April, and two tentative programs are in the works for May. He extended thanks to the membership for this leadership opportunity which concludes June 30.
    The Treasurer's Report was presented by Doreen Pankewich who indicated that the current focus is on preparing a Budget to 2021-2022, which has with it a great number of unknowns. A meeting of the Directors is being held later this month to work through some of the details and prepare the budget for the membership's consideration.
    Peter Peters provided an overview of International Service Projects Committee, noting the Club received a $1,000.00 donation from a supporter for the Club's commitment to the Ripple Effect Program in Guatemala - this was the 4th such donation received from this donor. The Club's Global Grant Computer Installation Project (A Goal for Guate II) expects to be completed by March 2022, when the 12 month monitoring and evaluation Project is complete. Agbor Agbor updated us on his role as the Club's ShelterBox leader, having been provided with instruction on the role.
    Fund Raising Director Charles Sadzamare spoke about the need to expand his Committee which at this point consists of himself (Agbor indicated his interest in assisting). A Vegetable Sale venture in partnership with Co-op is in the planning stage and structuring a group to coordinate the effort is hoping to be established. The Bottle/Can Drive is taking important shape with volunteers in place to pick up bottles and cans at Co-op facilities around the city.
    President Elect Pat advised that a full slate of Officers and Directors nominees for the 2021-2022 Rotary year has been established and will be circulated in due course.
In response to the reports presented, Doug Mortin commended the International Service Projects Committee for representing the Club so well in Guatemala through the Ripple Effect Committee. Peter Neufeldt advised that during last evening's Joint ZOOM meeting with our Guatemala partners, District 4250 DG Julio indicated that while the construction of schools is paramount, an equal benefit is the contribution made to the mindset of the people in the communities served - where a little "hand-up" has been an inspiration.
   Joyce Butler commended the District leadership for their effort to hold 4 sessions in the coming months on Rotary's 4-WAY TEST, noting this as a most timely development.
   Directors and Officers thank you for your continuing leadership.
Understanding Rotary members’ needs — the key to engaged members
The following information is part of this month’s RI Membership Moment.
    “What do members want from their Rotary experience? And why do some members leave? Our research shows that members value local community service, friendship, and fellowship most. They cite time and cost, the club environment, and unmet expectations as reasons for leaving."
    "The key to engaging members is providing an experience that meets their needs and expectations. Learn more in the newly revised presentation The State of Rotary Membership, which contains membership data and trends for the first half of the 2020-21 Rotary year.”

The Family of Rotary
  • PDG Peter Neufeldt noted there is an Assistant Governor Role open in Regina as Carlyle Murray is stepping down from this role
  • This is an opportunity to mentor and guide 2 or 3 clubs under the direction of the District Governor;
  • Having served as a President is important as the experience and understanding is helpful in providing support to the assigned Clubs.
  • Talk to Peter Neufeldt for information.
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • We wished PDG Doug Mortin a Happy Birthday (April 23) in song - our wishes were more sincere than the vocalized expression;
  • Peter Peters was fined for noting the coming Saturday's "spring day" would be followed by a colder Sunday - seems this was a "downer";
  • Jeff, who celebrated his Birthday on March 22, was happy to note that he was younger than the Sergeant who celebrated her birthday last week;
  • Toshi Shinmura was pleased with the outcome of last weekend's Master's Tournament;
  • Russ Parry happy to tell us that he will get his COVID shot tomorrow (worthy of celebration) - he also noted his accent should not lead one to think of him as "someone from Scotland";
  • Agbor Agbor told us that his daughter, who is in Nigeria, celebrated her 18th Birthday last Monday - the family gathered by ZOOM from around the world as they celebrated virtually;
  • At 12:11 P.M. Cory Daly announced that he and wife Holly would be taking possession of their new (and first) home in 19 minutes - excited +++;
  • The stone picking/manure spreading team of volunteers (Allen Hillsden, Pat Dell and John Van Koll, plus the owner) putting their "shoulders to the wheel" as they prepared the Garden Plot at the Wozniak's for initial tillage.
  • Hope to see you all next week.
