CITYKIDZ REGINA - TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN

Allen Hillsden introduced Guest Speaker Donna West, Director of CityKidz Regina as a fulltime role in September 2013. As a volunteer, Donna spent the previous decade and a half in related programs which mentored children in challenging situations in the Regina community.
CityKidz Regina Dream is to one day, "in the not so distant future, we will see the end of child poverty in Canada and every child would have equal opportunity to thrive, to dream big and to reach their full potential." This dream is pursued in practical terms through their stated Mission We exist to increase resiliency and inspire BIG dreams for Canadian children living in low-income communities, by providing inspirational experiences and nurturing personal relationships, one child at a time.; and are guided by their Values which fall under three pillars: People of faith; Community of hope; and, Servants of love.
CityKidz Regina Director Donna West
Donna noted CityKidz exists because they believe every child needs a good home. The reality is that not every child is born into that situation and in an effort to inspire children to dream they establish programs which will move toward this preferred picture "of my life". The Saturday Program  established in the North Central area of Regina, sets the stage by involving children from age 5 and up. The Program involves a gathering at Soul's Harbour every Saturday; a once a week "home visit", which is like a door step interaction with the child and members of the family; a monthly "Birthday celebration" for all the children who had a birthday during the month (celebration includes a gift) - Donna noted that many children have never experienced a birthday. In addition CityKidz partners with a number of summer Camps in the area, and are able to send their "Saturday Program" children to a Summer to Remember camp. Christmas parties with gifts are a further highlight and in many instances a new experience.
What can we do as a Club or as individuals?
i) Volunteer; ii) Make a donation; iii) Sponsor a child; iv) Initiate a fund raising project. For more info see:
