Attendees do not have to travel as you appreciate the comradery, learning, laughing, singing, experiencing Rotary from the comfort of your home;
For today's program, President Jean-Marc turned the meeting over to Ann Grahame who provided us with a snap-shot of her Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) experience.
Ann first spoke about her Inbound introduction to RFEs which consisted of a group in 2009 from Rotary District 9830, (Tasmania); in 2010 a team from Rotary District 1020, (Scotland); and, 2014 Rotary District 5520, (New Mexico and part of Texas). Each of these events created an increased appreciation for the impact of "vacationing" with initial strangers who in essence become like "pen-pals" of yesteryear.
Ann told us about her Out-Bound experience to Rotary District 5520, (New Mexico and part of Texas), which she shared with our Dryden, Saskatoon and Edmonton visitors, whose enthusiasm for the experience matched Ann's. Jean- Marc managed the slides under Ann's instruction. We learned about their visit to the Rio Grande Gorge; visit to the Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO Living World Heritage site. The Team were driven to the Millicent Rogers Museum, with its fascinating collection of New Mexican Pottery, and Navajo rugs.
The Exchange team met with the President of the Rotary Club of Taos Milagro for breakfast and to exchange banners at Ranchos Plaza Grill. They were driven to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, one of the most magical places Ann has ever visited. The team was joined by the District Governor and were driven to Bandelier National Monument, where signs of human habitation date back 3,600 years. It was here they walked the Main Loop Trail through Frijoles Canyon, there was a little climbing and they tested the wooden ladders which led to the cliff cave dwellings, known as talus houses.
They were taken to see the Hubbard Western Museum of the Horse, and then toured Lynn Willard’s Ruidoso’s Veterinary Clinic. They visited the Trinity Site and the White Sands Missile range where the first Atomic Bomb was exploded on July 16, 1945.They visited Fort Stanton which was important in the early days of the "wild West" and over the decades it has filled other purposes.
All of these experiences and so many more introduced us to what makes a Rotary Friendship Exchange a unique and never to be forgotten experience. While in the presence of local Rotarians, one gets a picture of what it is like to "live here", and all the while being treated to local culture and community.
According to our guests from Drydan, Saskatoon and Edmonton, Rotary Friendship Exchange will grow on you once it has been experienced. There is a chance opportunities may open in 2022 - one can always hope.
Thank you, Ann, Mardi and Elaine for sharing your enthusiasm for RFE!

All this a salute to the Guatemala workers and the appreciated support of The Rotary Foundation, Global Grants. A tip of the hat to a 14 year close relationship with our District's Ripple Effect Program and a wonderful partnership between the Rotary Clubs of Retalhuleu, Guatemala and Regina Eastview.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
Peter Peters took on the task of Sergeant, in the absence of "the lady", having been directed that it would be inappropriate to fine the President;
With this clear direction, Peter chose to invite selected members to talk about what was new and exciting in their world;
From Ted Kent, members learned that he was "living the dream" - their daughter, a nurse left "the nest", another member of the family, and engineer, is into making his first million (my interpretation), and there is a fishing trip being organized - that is like a "hat trick";
Visitor Elaine told us of her former membership in the RC of Saskatoon, now lives in Edmonton and came to be part of the RFE presentation;
Doreen Pankewich was earlier identified as the finder of the missing $16,000.00 in our Club accounts - all has been made right - Doreen was back to her relaxed self;
Hans Gaastra has golfed, will be golfing today and expects to continue on this line throughout the summer;
Peter Neufeldt brought greetings from Ralph Goodale who has taken up residence in the UK and will soon be joined there by Pamela - we are all invited to drop in.
Wishing you all a wonderful week of spring sunshine and warmth.
