HONOURING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES!

Past President Richard Schwan was called on to introduce our Guest Speaker, Strini Reddy, a member of the RC of Winnipeg and District 5550 Chair of the Honouring Indigenous Peoples (HIP) Committee.
Strini Reddy was born and raised in South Africa during the turbulent era of Apartheid. He and his young family left S.A. in 1960, lived in 3 countries over the next ten years searching for a "permanent" home. Eventually they moved to The Pas, MB where he spent six years as a teacher and administrator. In 1978 they moved to Winnipeg. He was a consultant with MB Ed, then a consultant with Frontier School Division where he rose to Chief Slllnupt. Strini retired in 1991, but subsequently served as Exec Director of the MB. Association of School Superintendents.
Throughout his life, Strini has been a passionate advocate for children, youth and the underserved and underprivileged in our society and in our world. He was a volunteer with the Social Planning Council of Wpg and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wpg. He was the co-founder of the Community School Investigators (CSI) summer learning program for inner city children. Strini served as the Chair of MB’s Healthy Child Advisory Council for 10 years.
Strini is the recipient of numerous honors and awards among them the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, the Order of MB and the Order of Canada. He is the Director of International Service with the RC of Winnipeg where he focuses on projects in support of the underprivileged in South Africa and reconciliation initiatives with indigenous communities in Manitoba.
It is as a leader in the ever expanding HIP Community that Strini shared his significant impact on Indigenous communities in Winnipeg, the province of Manitoba and beyond. HIP's Vision and Mission are a clear reminder that this is about relationship building, learning and working together.
The HIP VISION is that all Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Peoples work together,
interconnected and interdependent, for the benefit of future generations.
Their MISSION to catalyze societal change by inspiring Indigenous & Non-Indigenous relationship building, strengthening community well-being and advancing the next generation of leaders, serves as the solid foundation from which they move forward.

Through HIP efforts Strini shared stories of  positive results achieved when school children from Indigenous communities and Non-Indigenous communities come together to improve our lives together. It is in working together, interconnected and interdependent, that future generations will benefit. Although HIP remains focused on education, awareness and relationship building, there is an emphasis on building meaningful equitable and long lasting relationships by creating bonds and supporting each other, and employ key components needed to "walk the path together".

Strini has been called a “father to thousands” and an “advocate of humanity", to which he simply responds by saying he is just, "doing what’s right".
Strini Reddy, thank you for demonstrating in such profound ways what "doing what's right" looks like. You honored us, Strini, with your presence and presentation and humbled us with your dedication.
You are a beacon!
