CLUB BUSINESS MEETING - SEPTEMBER 2021!

    It was September Business Meeting Thursday at Regina Eastview, the day that Club Officers and Directors provide an overview of what transpired at the Club Directors meeting the previous Thursday. Sadly that meeting did not have a quorum, but there was helpful conversation, which have the potential to lead to thoughtful future steps.
    In the absence of Club Service Director Donna, President Pat noted that program speakers have been scheduled to the end of October.
Shannon Windrim reported the Golf Tournament realized a profit of $5,000.00, which was better than in previous years, thanks to an increase in golfers, great hole sponsorship support, enthusiastic Silent Auction bidders and a well-attended closing banquet.
    In Sam Berg's absence Allan Hillsden touched on the following components of Community Service Projects - the Committee is seeking an update from the Early Childhood Intervention Program; They will work closely with the Regina Public Library in providing support and assistance . Note was made that  Adult Literacy Program at the Regina Public Library is in need of new tutors - can we help?; Chile for Children is being followed to see how, when, and if assistance is required. The committee’s budget is a future discussion.
    Peter Peters, Secretary International Service Projects reported the Club's $1,000.00 budgeted commitment to ShelterBox Canada has been forwarded to them together with member donations of $200.00. Agbor Agbor and Russ Parry are handling the ShelterBox file for our Club and will be keeping us informed on disaster challenges. The Sector Barrios project is complete and the RC of Retalhuleu is addressing some detail questions from The Rotary Foundation. The Committee is exploring how the Club might recognize and celebrate World Polio Day on October 24.
    Fund Raising Director Charles Sadzamare reported that the Vegetable Fund Raiser, which is considering the bagging and selling of 3 vegetables (potatoes, carrots and onions), appears to be running into difficulty. It appears the profit would be about $800.00, which makes one question whether we should proceed. Charles will review this with his Committee.
    Honouring Indigenous Peoples - President Pat asked if there were volunteers who would like to serve as our Club's Representative on this District Committee. This was to fill the vacancy left by Cory Daly's death. Al Hoeft and Vic Wiebe indicated their willingness to take on this opportunity.
    Fund Raisers - President Pat reminded members that the RC of Regina Oskaya has a "Cherry" Fund Raiser and encouraged members to participate; The Rotary Clubs of Regina Local Restaurants Raffle which closes on October 31st, can gain lucky people access to a wide array of dining opportunities; and, Regina Eastview's Annual Christmas Ham sale is advertised and it also closes on October 31st.
Thank you Officers and Directors for your important leadership.

World Polio Day - Purple Pinkie
    As World Polio Day approaches, the Rotary community is getting ready to amplify our message about eradicating polio to protect the world’s children from this devastating disease.
    Together, we’ve made tremendous progress. Now it’s time to intensify our fight to make polio the second human disease ever to be eradicated. Last year, the World Health Organization’s African region was certified free of wild poliovirus, showing that eradication is possible even in very difficult circumstances. The wild poliovirus remains endemic in just two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. We can use World Polio Day to advocate for the support we need to end polio in countries where it still paralyzes children.
    Can we match the Club's commitment of $1,500.00?
The Family of Rotary
  • Leo Ell and John Van Koll share September 18 as a Birthday day. One is older, which makes the other younger. While their respective age is not important, what is notable is that together they put their shoulders to the Rotary wheel for a combined total of 69 years of "doing good in the world".
  • Congratulations, Gentlemen;
  • We appreciated seeing Ann Grahame at our meeting, albeit with her left arm in a sling, having taken a tumble and receiving care and attention at the Regina General. Good to see you in a "vertical" position, best wishes as you heal, Ann;
  • Charles Sadzamare has celebrated 10 years of Service through Rotary as part of Regina Eastview and will be presented with an appropriate pin at a future in-person gathering. Thank you, Charles, for your decade of service.
International Day of Peace on 21 September
To mark the International Day of Peace on 21 September, we encourage all Rotary members to prioritize projects that improve the health, well-being, education, and economic security of girls in their communities and around the world.
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sergeant Richard Schwan, was on time and had to wait for the President to arrive which occurred at 12:10P.M.;
  • President Pat was fined $5 for her tardiness, which she challenged, but Sergeant Richard had to leave before that matter could be addressed in Pat's favor - chances are good that this will come up at a future meeting;
  • The Sergeant tested member appreciation and knowledge of Rotary trivia - Ann Grahame and Shreedhar Jachak had correct response to their questions; Vic Wiebe, Peter Neufeldt and Charles Sadzamare had obviously not studied the lesson this morning;
  • Jeff Barber was hyper excited to be going to Saskatoon in the next few days for a meeting - this is the first time he has "been allowed" to get out of town since the pandemic struck;
  • Peter Peters shared that he and daughter Pamela completed the South Saskatchewan 101 Km Multiple Sclerosis Bike Tour fund raiser on Saturday - their 4-person team has raised over $9,000 with money still rolling in;
  • .Hope to see you all next week - enjoy the closing days of summer 21.
