LINDA ANDERSON WITH THE SASK. SENIORS' MECHANISM

Linda has always been an educator with various organizations. Former Vice President of SSM she is currently involved in the Ageism and Media Project.  This project is researching messaging to seniors through media.  Most people over 55 offer energy, experience and motivation to improve the world.

A new name being promoted instead of 'seniors' is perennials and the emblem will be the crocus.  The analogy being that 'perennials' keep on going, sometimes they do not bloom and the next year may bloom profusely in their contributions.
Linda Anderson
Linda challenged all of us to "recognize the impact of language on thoughts and actions.  Person centered language does not diminish the uniqueness and intrinsic value of each person." This applies to all ages, not just seniors.  Thank you Linda.

MEMBERSHIP MOMENT

Paul Daba, a membership moment
New member, Paul Daba, told us of his journey to Canada from Ethiopia, with no money, as a young man to Winnipeg.  An interesting story of his various employment opportunities, to his career here in Regina as an entrepreneur and owner of a number of businesses.  We are happy your journey brought you to Eastview, Paul.  Welcome to you and your family.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
Sergeant Pat fined everyone but the writer of this Rotor cannot remember why--but for a valid reason I am sure.  Jeff was fined for a smart remark to the Sergeant.  Doug Keam was also fined.  The Sergeant now thinks of Doug as a member.  Watch out Doug--next you will be on a committee.  Happy bucks--more from Jeff-married 36 years on Sept. 3.  Nancy will be attending a conference in London, England in November.  Doug Mortin had happy bucks for his 2 daughters--Cath came in first in her category in a triathlon in China, while Andrea participated in her 2nd Iron Man in Quebec finishing in 11 hours.  Doug stated their prowess comes from their Dad!!
Laurel had the number for the 50/50 but drew blue!
Here are today's highlights of fellowship
  • Sadly Wayne Lovely, a former member of Eastview passed away recently.  We observed a moment of silence in memory of Wayne. Condolences go to his family.
  • Linda reminded us of the importance of our contributions as 'perennials'.
  • New member, Paul, gave a touching account of his journey.
  • Charles told how the Co-op sponsored hot dog sales to raise funds to bring his family to Canada from Zimbabwe.  His message--support the hot dog sales on Saturday and Sunday--it will mean funds to help others.
  • Pat Dell and Committee have worked diligently to provide a fun anniversary celebration on Sept. 28.
  • Sherry and Sofia are off to Russell next weekend to meet with other exchange students in the District.
  • Birthday greetings were offered to Greg McNamara.
  • Other birthday celebrants will be recognized on their return.
