ROTARY FELLOWSHIP:  ON-LINE - RESTAURANT STYLE!

    It was another Imagine Rotary experience, as President Jeff Barber gathered the Regina Eastview masses to a restaurant or, to an on-line connection to the restaurant, to be part of Rotary August 11, 2022. The on-line participants were as close as multi-spots in Regina and as far away as South Dakota. We came to be part of the internationally prized and praised Rotary Fellowship. Fellowship was the Program - and the noise level varied from gentle to louder and ever louder, until the food arrived when it lessened (but only slightly).
    President Jeff shared the Land Acknowledgement, which has application in Canada, Saskatchewan, Regina, and even below the "49th". Vic Wiebe shared thoughtful Wisdom that truly has Just for Tonight application for everyone. And Doug Mortin was ready with a sheet of challenges to which we should all have answers, and some of us sadly become tongue tied or suffer a more serious condition.

Thank you President Jeff for doing it different

FOCUSING ON THE COMFORT AND CARE OF OUR MEMBERS
August is Membership and New Club Development Month. One of RI President Jennifer Jones' initiatives is to focus on the comfort and care of our members, and Membership Month is the perfect time to make sure that  your club provides a welcoming experience. Members are more likely to stay if we listen to them and understand what they want out of Rotary.

CREATING A WELCOMING CLUB ENVIRONMENT
Keeping in mind that August is Membership Month in Rotary, this article from the RI website, this observation from PDG Tom Gump.
"As a membership organization, we need members to grow and expand. Every August, Rotary clubs and districts around the world take time to focus on their membership plans. Rotary President Jennifer Jones is reminding clubs this year that it is important to comfort and care for your members. In his latest blog post for Rotary Voices, Tom Gump, a past district governor in Minnesota, USA, shares a few ways his club is creating a welcoming club environment."

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lots of highlights - some of us (18) met in the Regent Family Restaurant, ordered our meal from a menu;
  • Ate and spoke to each other, before, during and after dining;
  • On-line participants (6) joined us in the meeting portion and some remained to chat with members seated at 2 tables;
  • PDG Doug  Mortin was the Sergeant-At-Arms and preformed splendidly declaring a "HATS OFF" to the 10 members of the Club who volunteered to assist with the August 3rd Pancake Breakfast historically handled by the RC of Regina Industrial Parks;
  • Sergeant Doug declared another "shout-out" was declared for Shannon Windrim and Doreen Pankewich, for delivering the enthusiastic RYLA Students to Clear Lake, Manitoba for their week-long leadership event,
  • Kevin Hayes was recognized and received an enthusiastic, albeit seated, ovation;
  • Al Hoeft was correct on Rotary International's 2022-2023 Theme, but Ron Okumura erred in identifying the President, and someone re- membered that Jennifer Jones is a member of the RC of Windsor-Roseland (D 6400);
  • Pat Dell was a little undecided where Rotary started and Peter Peters forgot the name of Rotary's Founder (he was adversely impacted by seeing so many complete people on Thursday noon);
  • Happy dollars came from Al Hoeft because in his youth he hung out around this very facility, which was then a Western Pizza, where a young lady, named Karen, was a waitress;
  • Leif Riesach was so excited to be a Rotary meeting following the 2 plus years "COVID absence", that he gave Sergeant Doug to select one of 3 different colored bills from Leif's wallet - Doug choose purple;
  • Pat Dell attended the Sunday afternoon barbecue at Jack Wozniak's to recognize former Exchange students Runa (from Japan) and Flavia Trevisan (from Brazil);
  • Allen Hillsden was delighted that he went kayaking and stayed afloat;
  • Peter Neufeldt and said he and Doug were pleased to take the proceeds ($13,400.00) raised by the Motorcycle Ripple Effect Program Fundraiser to the District 5550 WCS Foundation Treasurer in Melfort (applause);
  • Gary Carlson called from South Dakota to say he and Jessie's are on a gifted vocation from their children in celebration of their 60th Wedding Anniversary - Congratulations Gary and Jessie;
  • It was a memorable Rotary meeting - thank you all for making it so!

Philosopher's Corner

“Just for tonight, I will be grateful. I will give thanks for the past day – its failures as well as its successes, its sadness as well as its joys and its pain as well as its pleasure. I will take comfort in knowing that every event and circumstance that occurred today can be used for my good and the good of others.”
