ACCESS COMMUNICATIONS CO-OPERATIVE WITH FRAN MORAN!
President Jeff Barber allowed ZOOM meeting fellowship to continue until just after 12:05 P.M., when he called us to "order", to the extent that works. Having welcomed us to Eastview’s regular meeting, President Jeff acknowledged by name our appreciated guests. He then recited our Club's Land Acknowledgement and in conversation with Bob Durston wisely concluded that Neepawa is not part of Treaty 4. Gary Carlson was called on for Words of Wisdom, and Vic Wiebe was assigned Sergeant-At-Arms Role. Worthy Birthday celebrants will be acknowledged in Song when we next meet in-person.
As Jeanne Alexander was not in good Audio/Visual contact so, President Jeff introduced Guest Speaker, Fran Moran the Community Relations Manager at Access Communications Co-operative, which he joined in 2020. In this role he oversees the Co-operative’s corporate sponsor-ship, events, fundraisers, and other member and community initiatives. He is also one of the primary advocates for Access and its Children’s Fund charity, presenting to community groups and municipal, provincial, and federal government officials. Having over 13 years of experience working in the co-operative sector, Fran won the 2019 Co-operative Young Leader Award from the Saskatchewan Co-operative Association. Fran was born in El Salvador and raised in Regina, where he resides.
Using Power Point Slides Fran Moran introduced us to the Access Communications Co-operative; established in the Regina area in 1978. It is 100% Saskatchewan owned not-for-profit service co-operative. Today it is in 235 communities, covering an area of 200,000 sq. km.
Concern for the community is a co-operative principle, and from its not-for-profit foundation, they reinvest every dollar back into the community. They have three pillars for their community investment: i) Community Programing; ii) Have a Registered Charity (Children's Fund); and, iii) Provide Community Support. The founding purpose of the Co-operative was; "To reflect the community back to itself through the medium of television." In part this is realized through AccessNow TV, which is available on local channels in those 100 plus communities. Over 71 % of all their programming was produced locally in 2022 with over 3,000 hours volunteer hours.
The Children's Fund is their Registered Charity which was founded in 1992 to which they have donated over $3 million dollars, with over $240,000 in 2022 alone. These funds go to support Youth at risk or in need such as Health and wellness issues; education and literacy; and, social isolation. The Charity welcomes applications for support, with these applications available from: myaccess.ca/childrens fund.
In terms of Community Support, Access Communications supports over 1100 Community Groups; A total of 20 $1,000 Scholarships for High Schools in the Communities they serve; and, A host of Community initiatives around the province.
If you want to become involved, then become a part of this co-operative - it costs $1.00 per year. You can volunteer. You can become a member today at: myaccess.ca/members. Remember it is 100% Saskatchewan.
The Q & A was a wonderful conclusion to a very fine presentation.
THANK YOU, Fran Moran

Community Relations Manager, Access Communications Co-operative
ROTARY FELLOWSHIPS
Juneis designated as “Rotary Fellowships Month” by the RI Board to recognize the importance of international fellowship and good will among Rotarians with similar recreational interests, vocations, and health and medical issue-oriented interests, to promote increased participation in fellowships and increase understanding of this program.The RI Board encourages fellowships groups to highlight activities and events in celebration of "Rotary Fellowships Month" in June.
Every Canadian Rotarian, (actually every Canadian) should watch Jennifer Jones presentation to the Melbourne Convention - powerful and impactful - proud to be Canadian, proud to be a Rotarian.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
Twenty members and guests attended today's meeting - would have been great to have a second screen of faces - for another day;
It was so good to see Leo Ell, a 53 year member of Eastview, at the meeting - Leo, you were immediately recognized;
Vic Wiebe got the nod as today's Sergeant-At-Arms, and it was evident that he had given this task some fore-thought - this is how it unfolded;
He waved around the theme (above) in front of his camera and after a time someone thought it looked like this year's Theme;
He challenged his captivated audience by wondering if anyone knew the name of the current serving President of Rotary - it took a time and we were able to respond correctly;
To the question what is special about her, Gary Carlson remembered she was Canadian, the fact that she was the first female President of Rotary International came just a little later;
We learned from Sergeant Vic's probing that women were welcomed into Rotary in 1989;
Also he helped us identify National Indigenous Day, Father’s Day and Pride Week, as three events Canadians celebrate in June of each year;
In Regina there are also three important things happening in June - Mosaic Festival, Wascana Pool will be opening and the third one will be circulated when someone texts me with the answer.
It was a great day to be with Eastview because we learned a lot from Guest Speaker Fran Moran about the Access Communications Cooperative;
Have a wonderful week everyone - hope to see you Monday at the Delta.
