NEW MEMBER INDUCTION & CLUB BUSINESS MEETING!

In calling the meeting to order, President Jean-Marc extended a special welcome to guests and visiting Rotarians, identifying Lori Smith as a "Guest, for the last time". This had a bit of an "ominous" ring until he added, "Because Lori will be inducted into our Club in a few minutes." - appreciated clarification. Wishing to involve Past Presidents of the Club in this important club activity, President Jean-Marc, indicated he will be involving members of this group in each New Member Induction.
The President called on Lori Smith's sponsor, Peter Neufeldt, to introduce the Club's first new member in this Rotary year. From Peter we learned that Lori has an interest in service and therefore Rotary has important appeal, particularly in relation to its work internationally. Lori has travelled extensively having been to 18 countries on five continents.  She has traveled to India five times, where she gained increasing interest in learning about yoga and meditation. Lori enjoys yoga and sees teaching yoga as an area of “service”. Work wise, Lori is associated with Freedom 55 Financial in Regina.
Past Presidents Gail Bradley, Shreedhar Jachak and Doug Mortin were invited to participate in Lori's Induction which was followed by DG Gailmarie Anderson's welcome into RI District 5550.
Gail indicated to Lori and reminded all of us that membership in Rotary means we are welcomed and supported by all members of the Club. That as a Rotarian, she is the communication link between Rotary and her business and community.
Shreedhar introduced Lori to the "Object of Rotary" and the four aspects which roll out of the challenge, "...to encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of worthy enterprise...”
Doug concluded the induction by indicating that the world will judge Rotary by the image reflected by Rotarians in our interaction, in and with the world. For Rotarians this is guided by our commitment to the dictates of the, "The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do....." , which preambles 4 simple questions and serves as a foundation to a life of service.
It was a wonderful touch to have DG Gailmarie in our company today to extend the WELCOME of the District to this newest member to the world of Rotary. Lori was advised from the experience of others, that wearing your Rotary pin will "open doors" is not a cliché, it is real - after all, last year's theme told us Rotary Connects the World.
President Jean-Marc Nadeau with New Rotarian Lori Smith
To conclude Lori's Induction, had we been in a room together, President Jean-Marc would have invited us to stand as he, by the power of his Presidential office, declared Lori Smith a member of the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview, having been loaned the Classification of Training and a Development.
Below is a photo of New member Lori Smith with 3 members of the Induction Team (L to R) Doug Mortin, Peter Neufeldt, Shreedhar Jachak, Lori Smith and President Jean-Marc.

HANDWASHING WITH SOAP
Every month, the electronic newsletter Water Currents from USAID, provides excellent resources in the area of WASH. The July issue highlights research on the importance of handwashing with soap.
The preamble to the research links indicates that 40% of households lack access to a handwashing facility with soap and water. And 18% of those households have nowhere to wash their hands.

Philosopher's Corner

"The world has no room for cowards,
We must all be ready somehow to toil, to suffer, to die.
And yours is not the less noble because no drum beats before you,
When you go out into your daily battlefields,
And no crowds shout about your coming
When you return from your daily victory or defeat."

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)
