ONLINE THERAPY FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Dr. Katherine Owens, a registered doctoral psychologist with the Sask. Health Authority, was guest speaker today.  She is very accomplished in the areas of Adult Clinical and Neuropsychology.  She provides clinical supervision and training to psychology interns, practicum students, residents and provisionally registered psychologists.  She is clinical director for the SHA's Online Therapy Team and Chief Psychologist for the Regina Mental Health Clinic.  Her resume lists other areas of clinical practice and volunteer activities in challenging environments.

Today her topic was Internet Delivered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Saskatchewan Residents.  About 80% of patients are suited for this program.  The online therapy user unit and the University of Regina partner with Sask Health Authority and offers Sask. adults free internet delivered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for depression, anxiety, alcohol ue and chronic conditions.  The therapy involves reviewing clinical information online with weekly support from a therapist. The approach is found to be an effective and convenient way to receive care.

The Wellbeing course was developed in Australia and adapted for the people of Saskatchewan by Dr. Heather Hadjistavropoulos at the University of Regina Online Therapy Unit. The course is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy principles designed to help adults learn skills to help them manage symptoms of stress, anxiety, worry, low mood and depression.

The Family of Rotary
  • The only birthday to celebrate today was Greg McNamara's on Sept. 23.  Greg wasn't present--perhaps still celebrating!  Hope you had a good birthday Greg.
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jeff Barber was acting sergeant today with the Halifax library in the background. He has met with Pat who is developing a list of fines for future use--members beware!  In the meantime he asked for happy bucks--cash from which can be forwarded to Doreen.
  • Jeff had happy bucks for next week, when he won't be present but the reason for his happiness will be revealed during the week.  Do we watch TV for this announcement Jeff?
  • Doug Mortin was happy as he motorbiked over 400 Km. yesterday.
  • Ann had a visit from son, James, who brought fresh vegetables, honey and a keyboard for her ipad.  Ann was very happy and made soup from the fresh vegetables.
  • Ann noted that she listened to excellent speakers at the Zone 28-32 Summit being held this week.
