60th ANNIVERSARY EDITION

It was a special evening of food, fellowship and reflection. Former members, spouses, and friends attended the event at the beautiful Royal Regina Golf Club.  Club Service Director Pat Dell was master of ceremonies. DG Fred Wright from the Rotary Club of Kenora, complimented Eastview on this milestone.  He noted the many projects in which the R.C. of Eastview has been involved. Eastview is distinguished in being home to 5 past District Governors.  He paid tribute to Ann Grahame, long time Literacy Chair for District 5550, and to Allen Hillsden for his contribution for many years as District Secretary.

Mayor Michael Fougere complimented Eastview on 60 years of commitment to the local community and to projects abroad.

PDG Peter Peters provided an entertaining summary of the last 60 years of Eastview.  Our club was sponsored by the R.C. of Regina and in turn sponsored 4 additional Rotary clubs in Regina, Regina North, Regina Industrial Parks, Regina South, and Oskaya.  Eastview continues to focus on youth programs, local and international projects.  Peter paid tribute to those who have served in District positions, to women who were allowed to join in 1989 and to all who have made Eastview the club it is today.  In 1959, the year the Club was chartered, the annual membership dues were $10 and a full meal cost $2.65.  A lot has changed in 60 years.  Thank you Peter.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Inner Wheel President, Fran Goudie, congratulated Eastview on 60 successful years.  This Inner Wheel Club was initially sponsored by Eastview.  Their mission is to promote true friendship and foster international understanding.  Thank you Fran.
  • Two members received Paul Harris awards: Doug Archer and Richard Schwan.  Congratulations to you both.
  • Harmony 2 Go, a group of young a cappella singers performed many familiar songs.  This group loves to sing if you wish to have them entertain for your group, please call an Eastview Rotarian for contact information.
  • President Jack Wozniak thanked the organizing committee for arranging this anniversary celebration.  President Jack is passionate about Rotary and youth in particular.  He invited us to listen to our community and to tell our story and reminded us that 'Rotary connects the world'.
  • ONE MORE IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CARING PLACE FUNDRAISER LAST WEEK: Peter Peters was runner up for a Caring Award.  Congratulations Peter.  In our view you are a winner everyday--within the R. C. of Regina Eastview, in our community and in our District.
