It was good to be together by ZOOM on a rather blustery day where the wind and moisture in the air remiind us of the wonderful things to come. However, spirits were bright when President Jayne Amadasum 'gonged' the Rotary bell reminding us it was minutes after 12 Noon and important things would be unfolding to make this a packed hour. After acknowledging the appreciated attendance of members and visitors, the President reminded us of our committment to live in harmony with the Indigenous people who welcomed us to this land - we here in Treaty 4 and PDG Fred in Treaty 3.
The sharing of Happy Dollars is an interesting process and varies from week to week. Sometimes there is silence, sometimes there are are a few members with highlights. Today was one of those occasions when the Guest Speakers are sensing we have forgotten about the important message they were about to share and time is being used by in-house 'story tellers', which are detailed in HIGHLIGHTS.
Our 2 TOPIC MEETING began with a report on the World Polio Day Dinner held on October 21st. Toshi and Linda Shinmura, Event Coordinators, shared this story.
Topic 1 - Polio Plus Acknowledgements – 2025
Eastview’s Polio Plus Campaign earned $1810 for Polio Plus this year. We sold 60 tickets to the dinner, and we would like to acknowledge all those members who invited guests, particularly Barry Strohan and Ron Okumura for filling tables. We would also like to thank the people who could not attend but gave donations to the cause—Peter Peters, Gail Bradley, George Carson, and four friends of Ann Grahame.
Thanks go to Greg Baca for inviting guests and donating symphony tickets for auction, to Stewart Graham for his generous bid, and to Ian Yeates for putting together a power-point presentation to be used for public awareness. This was one of the resources used by the Rotaract Club to print fliers for part of their campaign.
Linda would specifically give a big thank-you to President Jayna for liaising with the Rotaract Club and for helping to get the word out to members during the advertising phase, and to Treasurer Doreen Pankewich for all her help with the financial side of things.
Thank you to all the attendees and contributors for making this campaign a success! District Polio Plus Chair, Pat Chernesky, passes on her appreciation to all the members.

Topic 2 - Membership Engagement Survey
Early in her Presidency, Jayna Amadasun courageously chose to survey the Club's membership. You will recall the invitation and a big THANK YOU to the 18 members who responded. President Jayna analyzed the response and graphed the results and shared some of the conclusions one could draw from the advice received and take steps to consider how the Club can use the feedback to enhance member Rotary experience. President Jayna will be circulating the information she shared at the meeting today to all members and set up an opportunity to discuss it at an in-person meeting.
Those of you who participated in the survey, will remember the questions, but for those who missed the opportunity here are some of the things the survey asked:
How pleased are you with your membership experience?
Do you know how many committees currently exist in the Club?
How many of these are our Club’s Community service projects?
Are you a member of a committee?
How satisfied were we with in-person meetings?
How many in person meetings would you like in a month?

SOME POLIO PLUS HISTORY
In 1979 James L. Bomar Jr., then RI president, put the first drops of vaccine into a child’s mouth, as he ceremonially launched the Philippine poliomyelitis immunization effort. Rotary’s first Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grant project was underway.
This initiative set the stage for Rotary’s bold move to declare that the eradication of polio was possible and in 1985 the initial polio eradication partners included Rotary International, World Health Organization, UNECEF and the US Centre for Disease Control.
In 1985 Rotary’s initial commitment to eradication of polio was to raise $100 million in 3 years when the program was determined to start. At the end of the 1988-89 year Rotary had raised $246 million.
University of Regina Rotaract Students
During that 3 year period District 5550’s (then District 555), 48 Clubs raised $947,723.43 (CAN) exceeding our stated goal by $142,723.43. At this time our District consisted of 48 Clubs, Regina Eastview was the District’s 5th largest contributing club, donating $50,493.23 to this cause.
The task was championed in Regina Eastview by PDGs Sam McKee (1983-84) and Glen Stinson (1987-88). PolioPlus is as international service initiative Regina Eastview has continued to honour for these 40 years.
The Gates Foundation made its first donation to the Polio Eradication program in 1999, and became a partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 2007.
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
It was a great Highlight Day which must be a sign of the changing seasons;
It started with Allen Hillsden telling us that in calling to wish his daughter a Happy Birthday, she trumped his greeting by advising that she was GETTING MARRIED - seemed Allen was delighted by the response;
Jeff Barber said he has earlier expressed his desire to become a Grandfather was delighted to advise this is to happen on March 3 when they would be welcoming a granddaughter;
Peter Peters was pleased to have participated in the Club's weekly Thursday Safeway grocery pickup for the CMHA Regina Branch;
Sam Berg referred to his "Counselled" at the Caring Place since 1996, he will be serving as the Interim Executive Director following the resignation of the current Executive Director - a role he has filled in the past - Congratulations, Sam - Service above Self in action;
Ann Grahame reminded us that she is again heading up Regina Eastview's Gifts of Warmth program for the Canadian Mental Health Association Regina Branch Christmas Dinner celebration for their clients.- Ann has already been showered with great contributions and is looking for more mittens, toques, scarves, socks, etc. for delivery to CMHA on December 15, 2025.
