ANNOUNCEMENTS
You are reminded June is Rotary Fellowships Month, and while Rotarians do love and thrive on "fellowship", this has a very specific focus which you can explore by going to: https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/more-fellowships;
Thursday, June 27, 2024No meeting;
Thursday, July 4, 2024 - No meeting - Golf Tournament July 5th;
July 5th Golf Tournament - John Van Koll is getting information to us this weekend so we will each know what is going to happen and how we can participate and help make this a class event;
July 8th Joint RC of Regina and RC of Regina Eastview In-Person meeting at the Delta, hosted by the RC of Regina;
July 11th no Regina Eastview meeting because we were with the Regina Club on Monday.
An evening celebration at the Royal Regina Golf Course where the space is great, the staff are welcoming, the food is excellent and served with class, the room extends a relaxed atmosphere where conversation and fellowship are an appreciated aspect of the gathering.
Past President Pat Dell is the evening's MC and after an hour of "social adjustment", she reminds us that the time has come when the more formal components of the event will unfold. Peter Peters was called on to share the Club's Land Acknowledgement, which was followed by Jeff Barber leading in a prayer of thanksgiving. It was not long before a "hush" fell over the crowd as the banquet took over the attendee focus.
Following the meal, MC Pat provided John Van Koll an opportunity to high light the July 5th Lyle Piett Memorial Golf Tournament at Tor Hill. Seems John has things in hand and promised top-notch weather consistent with the 16 year history of the event. The Signature Sponsor of the 2024 Golf Tournament is the Affinity Credit Union and we are most appreciative of Richard Schwan's effort to achieve this outcome. President Al Hoeft took this opportunity to recognize John's 20 years of Rotary service to the community and world by presenting him with a 20 year pin.
In view of Al Hoeft assuming the role of President for a 2 year period starting on July 1, 2023, there was no transfer of the Presidential role, so President Al reflected on the past year. He noted the Theme RI President Gordon McInally selected was Create Hope in the World, and he thanked Club leaders and members for taking steps to fulfill that challenge. He noted the quality of speakers Jeanne Alexander was able to bring to the club in persons like Nelson Bird, Lorne Scott and Trevor Herriot sensitized members to our surroundings and the impact of humans on the land we occupy. He commended Gail Bradley and Peter Peters for their weekly recording of our Club's activities, and Gail's role in reminding members of the importance of the role we play in contributing to The Rotary Foundation. Al drew attention to our connection with the Rotary Club of Regina and our working together on an increasing number of initiatives where member participation is key to project or initiative continuance. The efforts of the Club to complete our Club's $25,000.00 commitment to support the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Regina Branch and the most recent initiative by Peter Neufeldt to put in place the weekly "COBS Bread pick-up" for the CMHA - Creating Hope in the World.
President Al spoke about the commitment to "Reconciliation", which is not simply about Land Acknowledgement but about Community Service contribution to the RPL Indigenous Programming Initiative, and resources to Mother Teresa Middle School - Creating Hope in the World.
Travelling to Estevan to join in that Rotary Club's 100th Anniversary celebration, and participating in the May District Conference in Moose Jaw where Eastview was recognized with a ShelterBox and PolioPlus Awards. - Creating Hope in the World
Al concluded his reminiscing by drawing attention to the 2024-2025 Theme selected by RI President Elect Stephanie Urchick is The Magic of Rotary calling members to, "....recognize and amplify the organizations power to save lives." In this vein He suggested it will be a year where we will look at new ways of doing things and in that regard Regina Eastview’s Adventures In Agriculture program is being recreated by an exciting team of current and former Eastviewians and members of the Rotary Club of Regina - blending Creating Hope In The World and The Magic Of Rotary.

Standing Ron Okumura, Allen Hillsden, Doreen Pankewich, John Van Koll, Ann Grahame, Pat Dell and Jeff Barber .
President George Carson, in his gentle kind approach, expressed their Club's appreciation for this year of togetherness.- doing together what alone would be difficult and by example referred to the last few months where the members of the Clubs have joined together to fulfill the commitment provide the person-power to serve supper at Souls Harbour every 3rd Thursday of the month. This action follows their Club's fund raising in support of Souls Harbor new facility initiative a few years ago. President George observed that people in the community do not distinguish between clubs, they simply see "Rotary". As a result in August all the Club's will be joining to assist Regina Industrial Parks with their annual Pancake Breakfast, held in concert with the Regina Exhibition.
President Geoge Carson
President George was pleased that their Club is also proud to be able to say they have a President Elect, which will not be declared in this week’s ROTOR.
Thank you Presidents Al and George for your observations on this occasion and your individual and collective service to Rotary in Regina.
The Family of Rotary
Two Regina Eastview Community Service Committee Investment;
On June 17, 2024 Sam Berg and Jayna Amadasun (below), representing Regina Eastview’s Community Services Committee attended the Regina Public Library where they presented RPL’s Kimberley Hintz with the Club’s $1,500.00 cheque for their Indigenous programming initiative;
Two weeks earlier, Sam Berg was at Mother Teresa Middle School, where he presented Evie Sawatszky (opposite), Director of Development at MTMS, with our Club’s cheque which supports the 20 students graduating from Grade eight.
Our Club’s gift added about $75.00 value to each of the 20 graduation packets. What a beautiful addition to this graduation celebration. As we learned some months ago students who graduated from MTMS are now graduating from University.
Another ‘legacy builder’ for Regina Eastview.

"Where shall I begin, please your Magesty" he asked.
"Begin at the beginning", the King said, very gravely, "and go on till you come to the end: then stop."

Today's guests
Attending this evening were members of Regina Eastview and their partners. It was good of the Strohan’s to bring along former Eastview member, Victoria Radons (President 1997-1998). We were also delighted to have the following members of the RC of Regina who graced our celebration: President George and Sheila Carson; Allen and Frances Goudie; Stewart and Gilda Graham; and, recent addition to the Club, Chinedu Ibegbulem, a Nigerian Rotarian who has made Regina his home. Thank you all for joining together to make this a celebration of the past year and excited anticipation of what will unfold in 2024-2025.
