ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • The Christmas gathering has been cancelled due to the pandemic.
  • The Changeover meeting has been postponed for now.

CLUB BUSINESS UPDATE!

There was no speaker today, however there were important updates about our Club.  President-elect Pat Dell hosted the meeting. There were a number of members plus one guest on ZOOM and 9 members at the restaurant.  ZOOM members left the meeting hungry as those eating at the restaurant told us of the delicious meals being served including seafood chowder and steak!  Some of the members reported the following information: Doreen Pankewich reported that the Club has been approved by Sask. Liquor and Gaming to hold a 50/50 draw as part of the Valentine fundraiser replacing the Gala. Tickets will be on sale on the 50/50 website soon at $20 each.  The draw will occur on February 14, 2021.
John Van Koll reported that we have only sold almost 500 hams.  This is only about half of what we need to sell. He noted this year that the Food Bank cannot be used for distribution of the hams.  Lisa Peters has put an ad on Facebook--thank you Lisa.  Peter Peters and Lisa have graciously volunteered to take orders for hams.  SELL, SELL, SELL.
Since there has been no Changeover meeting, Jack has been holding his gifts for Board members who served last year during his term.  The gift is a T-shirt with the 2019-2020 theme on the back of the shirt.  Jack will make arrangements to get these shirts to the deserving Board members.  They are $60 each if anyone else would like to purchase one.  Jack also has certificates for those with Perfect attendance in the 2019-20 year.  There will be no further awards for Perfect Attendance as the recording of attendance is a monumental task and has been discontinued. Thanks Jack for your commitment during a difficult year.  While there has not been a formal gathering to thank you, we are all grateful for your dedication and contributions to Eastview which continue.
Seth Grenzberg is from Richmond, BC, and was sponsored by the RC of Richmond Sunrise. He participated in the 2019 A in A and was selected to receive the RBC $750.00 A in A Educational Award.  In his acceptance e-mail Seth made the following observations:
"I have the most fond memories of the Adventures in Agriculture program. The experiences and knowledge I gained through participation in this program accompany me in my current studies in biology, chemistry, land management and sustainability, and allow me to reflect and broaden my understanding of these topics in a unique and applied manner. I have no doubt that when I begin nutrition courses, next year, that this will be the same.  This award will aid me in pursuing my studies. The UBC faculty of Land and Food Systems has an excellent and highly innovational farm, where food security, innovative agriculture, and food system research is constantly being performed.
Please pass on my sincere thanks to the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview, and RBC, for providing me with this award."  Congratulations, Seth.  Keep us updated on your future endeavors and successes.

WE REMEMBER

Yesterday we witnessed very different Remembrance Day celebrations--but we remembered just the same.
"In the late 1930’s and early 1940’s Rotary International was finding its very existence threatened in Europe and on the other side of the world in Asia.
As the war officially erupted, entire countries fell to German and Japanese forces.  It was recorded in the book “A Century of Service-The Story of Rotary International", that 484 clubs and more than 16,000 Rotarians were wiped off the rolls of Rotary during this time".....

Founding Father of Rotary, Paul Harris during World War II said: "The way to war is a well-paved highway and the road to peace is still a wilderness."  World peace remains elusive today but many agencies, like Rotary, keep up their efforts to make it a reality.
Canadian soldiers rest in the beautiful Commonwealth cemeteries in Europe.
The Family of Rotary
Best wishes to Jean-Marc and Jeff who are recovering from health issues.  We wish you a speedy recovery and return to Eastview.
Peter Neufeldt reported that Nick Cruz, a former member of the Rotary Club of Regina Oskaya, is grieving the tragic loss of his nephew in the Philippines.  Our condolences go out to Nick and family. Any contributions to a funeral fund would be appreciated by Nick and his family.  The nephew leaves behind a young son and pregnant wife. Contributions can be made by e-transfer to nc@rscmetal.com or by cheque made out to Nick Cruz and mailed to Peter Neufeldt at 4532 England Road, Regina S4R 4P5.
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Pat Dell was multitasking today as Acting President and Sergeant at Arms.
  • She promised she would not issue large fines today--this was good news!
  • Ann Grahame offered 2 Happy bucks--one--she has 2 tickets to the Pops Symphony concert on Nov. 26 at 7-30 which she will pass on for a donation to Rotary.  Her second happy buck was that Grandson, Finn, has finished his first quad of the most difficult Grade 11 classes.  The next quad should not be as difficult.
  • Sam Berg had happy bucks because his letter to the editor was published in the November issue of The Rotarian.  Sam took issue with reference in the July issue to RI President, Holger Knaack being 'young at heart'.  Sam's letter suggests that this statement reflects 'ageism'. Be sure to read Sam's full letter.
  • The Sergeant placed Doug Keam on the spot for a happy buck, with Doug replying he was happy the snow was gone.  Not quite, Doug.
  • Reminder of the Rotary webinar this evening.
  • Jack was happy with the seafood chowder.
