RESEARCH ON CHILDREN AND FAMILIES!

Introduced by Joyce Butler, we were informed that Dr. Lise Milne is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Social Work (Saskatoon Campus) at the University of Regina.  She has taught for the past nine years at the graduate and undergraduate levels at the U of Regina, and McGill and Concordia Universities in Montreal.  She was born and raised in Winnipeg.  Her teaching interests have included Child Welfare, Youth Justice, Student Practicum, Ethics and other areas. She worked for a number years at the McGill University Center for Research on children and families on several projects.  Lise had a number of years experience in Manitoba and Quebec as a child welfare worker, supervisor and trainer.
Lise spoke about the number of projects she is working on.  Her work in the core area of Winnipeg as a social worker gave her experience in cases of abuse, neglect, violence with a view to the repetition of the cycle in future generations.  She recognized the need for community support, and for partnerships with other groups working in these areas.
The RATL model she adopted in her research recognized the need for Relevancy, Accuracy, Timeliness, Local focus, for pressing needs to be identified by organizations, recognition of clinical and practical expertise and community/university partnerships.
Dr. Lise Milne
Some of Dr. Milne's current projects are: improving the well-being of adolescents and workers in group care contexts; developing practices and policies to support trauma-impacted children and youth; managing impacts of COVID-19 on the mental health of children, families and workers as well as creating a Digital Connections Hub through the University of Regina Child Trauma Research Center to support children in care during COVID-19 and beyond.  These are just some of the projects of this very engaged researcher.  Thank you Lise for speaking to us today on these important issues.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the absence of interim Sergeant Jeff, President Jean-Marc asked for happy bucks:
  • Ann was happy to announce that grandson, Paul, has written a musical which will be produced next year, virutally if necessary.
  • Cory Daly was happy to have Lise as a guest speaker and even happier that she responded to his email invitation within 15-20 minutes.
  • Sam Berg reported that he and his partner had a nice two-week vacation at Kenosee Lake. Sadly their bikes were stolen but Peter Peters was grateful for Sam's contribution to the MS Ride even though biking was not an option.
  • Kevin Hayes found a southern Saskatchewan treasure, Katepwa Lake.  Thanks to an informant he now knows next time to go to the Indian Head bakery when he is in the area.
  • Jean-Marc reported that he has visited many communities since his arrival here last year and has enjoyed them all--there are many neat coffee shops around the province.
  • Clarence was happy to report that his daughter and granddaughter visited them recently.
  • Lots of happiness within Eastview regardless of the pandemic!
