ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Ham sales are top of John Van Koll's mind these days.  Remember to get your orders in as soon as possible, by the end of October at the latest.  Regular email updates will follow from John.  Keep selling.
  • The Community Services subcommittee will meet on Friday, October 14, at 7-30 AM at Nicky's Cafe.  There will be a homework assignment which will be a review of the summary of the report on Truth and Reconciliation.
  • President Jeff laid out the schedule for upcoming meetings;  October 27, will be a hybrid in-person meeting at the Delta as will the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in November and December 2.
  • Other meetings will either be on zoom or a special meeting held elsewhere.  Information will follow as those arrangements are made.
  • Clarification will be made regarding payment for parking.

BACK AT THE DELTA FOR FOOD, FELLOWSHIP AND FUN!

This was a meeting with some of us on zoom and others gathering in person at the Delta after a long, long time.  Thank you to Jeff and Peter N. and others involved in arranging this to try and accommodate everyone.  It went well.
The scheduled guest was ill and could not attend today so fellowship prevailed.  The Community Paul Harris Fellow Award will be presented on October 27 also a  hybrid in-person meeting at the Delta.   A new person was to be inducted but that too was postponed.
The meeting began with O'Canada led by Allen Hillsden just like in the past with the Land Acknowledgement of Indigenous peoples following.  Even on zoom it felt good, like we have made progress through the pandemic.
While members at the Delta passed through the food line, Jeff arranged for the 'zoomers' to focus on one table and participate in conversation.  Here are some snippets of the table talk--some you will know and others you will have to guess:  One member noted that his wife was happy he was dining out at noon--looks like supper will be light at that house.  That sparked a note from another saying he and his wife had worked together a number of years and it was different for both when that ended but life is all about adjustments.
Our new prospective member, Jayna, noted that she is transitioning into running a business since she moved to Canada and is finding one becomes a 'jack of all trades'.  John Van Koll met with Jayna and her husband, Eghosa, at Starbuck's giving the couple a chance to learn more about Rotary and the opportunities membership can offer.  Their applications will go to the Board for approval and members can direct any concerns to the President.
We learned that Doug M. will be out on possibly his last ride of the season.  It is a beautiful time of year with all of the sunshine and color we have had.  Lyle Gollnick starts curling tomorrow at the Callie Club although teams move around.  So far he has only played against Doug M. but one day they may curl on the same team--depending on the draws.  Jeff's days are busy with library work and plans and Rotary among all the other things Jeff does.  Richard Schwan (on zoom) noted that it was difficult to sit and look at the dessert on the table but there was little sympathy shown.  We know the meals are good at the Delta and they treat us well.
President Jeff back at the Delta
President Jeff presenting Doug with his 30 year pin
It was a day to honour PDG Doug Mortin receiving his 30 year pin in the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview.  A Past President, Past District Governor, mentor and friend to all.  Congratulations!
The Family of Rotary
  • Birthday greetings were actually sung for Donna, Agbor, Greg, Richard Schwan and Allen Hillsden with birthdays in September and October.  Hoping you had/have a very happy birthday.
Sergeant Pat Dell
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sgt. Pat was in fine form today with help from Deputy John, and started off with a fine for those not wearing their Rotary pin or their name tag.
  • It was a mixed blessing for President Jeff-a Rotobuck for organizing the meeting and a fine for insulting the Sergeant!
  • Richard Schwan stepped boldly out to tell the Sergeant she sounded better muted--that was worth $5.
  • Happy bucks came from Richard Taylor who was happy Judy has her first cast off and now has a smaller one to deal with.  They are still looking for 2 Rotary couples to join them on a tall ship cruise in the Caribbean in January.  This is organized by their tour company and they return a percentage back to Rotary for those members who participate.  Please contact Judy Taylor if you are interested in this adventure.  Al Hoeft was happy to announce his son has joined the Rotary Club of Williams Lake, B.C. carrying on the family tradition.
  • Allen Hillsden told us of a story from his granddaughter that involved impact of her dog with 2 skunks.  One could surmise her day could only get better.
  • Doug Mortin had 55 happy bucks in celebration of their wedding anniversary of 55 years and noted that they are still married.  Gary and Jessie Carlson are celebrating 61 years of marriage this weekend.  CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH COUPLES.  A WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT.
  • The 50/50--Pat was multi-tasking today working the 50/50.  A total of $23.00 was at stake and President Jeff's ticket number was drawn. Unfortunately in the next step, the wrong color of marble was selected and so the pot grows.
  • President Jeff had provided 3 goodie baskets and the lucky winners on those were Doug Archer, Toshi and Ron.
  • A great day at Rotary.  Thanks again to Jeff and his team of organizers.
  • This edition of the Rotor was a collaborative effort between Peter P. and I.  Thank you to Peter for providing pictures and clarification on some of the information.  Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  As Ron Okumura noted in giving the philosophy we have much to be grateful for.  Good health and happiness to all.
