TONY PLAYTER NEW CEO WITH THE REGINA AND DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE!

Tony Playter was most recently a communications consultant with a Regina firm and is well-known in our city for his work with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, the Regina Public Library, the Regina Bypass, the Regina Airport Authority and the City of Regina.  He served as acting CEO of the Chamber following the passing of John Hopkins.

He has been active in the community serving on the boards of Regina Crime Stoppers, Saskatchewan Red Cross, Regina Thunder Football Club and Reconciliation Regina to name a few.  He has a background in broadcasting.
Tony noted that it is an honour to serve as CEO with the Chamber.
As CEO he will follow the strong foundation built by the late John Hopkins.  The 5 year vision strategy includes: revisiting the Strategic Plan; redefining the Chamber's role with community leadership partners; create and maintain Chamber relationships with all levels of government; re-energize the passion to be a Chamber member by meeting their business needs and wants; become the best Chamber in Saskatchewan, Western Canada and across the nation again.  Tony hopes the Chamber can improve member relations by reconnecting with its members--finding stakeholders and by networking through events, the website and newsletters.
Key imperatives in the 5 year vision are to grow the membership, provide free or low cost resources, re-energize events and form partnerships with other stakeholders, and a 2022 budget that will provide a new benchmark for future planning.
The 5 year vision tactics--success year 1: Positive relationships being established with all levels of government, key stakeholders and the visible minority business community; Earn a seat at the  'big kids' table for events, conferences and tradeshows and continue to introduce the Chamber to the entire community.  Thank you Tony for your interesting presentation and best wishes in your new role in the coming months and years.

The Family of Rotary
  • Clarence Krause is celebrating his birthday today--August 18, 2022.  Happy Birthday Clarence.
  •
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Richard Schwan served as Sergeant in response to the President's urgent call.  He noted what we are all thinking--that summer has gone by too fast.  He invited us to share a summer highlight as follows: Gary and Jessie were gifted a wonderful trip, in honour of their 60th anniversary, by their family.  They all travelled by car through 16 Northeastern states seeing many key attractions.
  • Doug and Leslie were happy to host their children and grandchildren for 2 weeks.  Cath and family have returned from China and are living in Ottawa as is Andrea and family--all are now back home in Canada to stay.
  • Peter Peters was happy to report a wonderful reunion at Pike Lake with Margaret's family after a 5 year time period.  The family has changed in that time and the celebration included gratitude for those who have passed on.
  • Word is that Richard has a splendid apple tree in his backyard and Peter P. is watching its progress on his walks.  Does he have apple pie in mind?
  • Al Hoeft was happy for all of the help the Salvation Army received from Eastview members packing backpacks.
  • Richard told his of his participation in a fundraiser on October 21, known as Swinging with the Stars in which Richard is a Star, all  to raise money for Hope's Home.  Donations to support Richard will result in votes for him.  Would that mean he has the potential to be the Swinging Star of Regina?  We look forward to that.
About Russ and Meg and their plan by Peter Neufeldt:
Sky Diving to Raise Money for ShelterBox!
I want to share with you a ShelterBox fundraising event that is organized to help ensure that no family goes without shelter. Russ Parry of the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview, and Meg Schmieder, Community Fundraising Coordinator for ShelterBox Canada, will be skydiving to raise money and make a difference by providing shelters for those who have lost their homes due to a disaster.
About ShelterBox
The Skydiving event will take place at the Moose Jaw Municipal Airport on Saturday, August 27 between 9:30 – 11:30.  Come early so you don’t miss it.
The following is a brief description of ShelterBox and it's close liaison with Rotary as described on the ShelterBox website.
"ShelterBox and Rotary officially became project partners in disaster relief in 2012. This partnership is instrumental to Rotary's disaster response strategy. One of the most important elements of the relationship is the opportunity for Rotary members to serve countries worldwide affected by disasters. By working together, we're able to combine resources to support communities around the globe immediately after a disaster, and make a start on long-term recovery"  --continued in left column.......
HAVE A GOOD WEEK EVERYONE AND ENJOY THESE BEAUTIFUL SUMMER DAYS.

MORE ABOUT SHELTERBOX..
"Rotary is the cornerstone on which ShelterBox is built, and remains in the DNA of everything that ShelterBox does. It was a Rotarian's "people of action" spirit that founded ShelterBox, and because of Rotary's vast global network, the two organizations have helped over 1.6 million people in 100 countries. More recently the partnership has ensured that lifesaving shelter and aid has helped families who needed protection from the threat of the coronavirus and the ravages of the war."
