COVID 19 IMPACT ON REGINA'S MOST VULNERABLE!

President Jack Wozniak, a member of the Board of Canadian Mental Health (CMHA) - Regina Branch, introduced our Guest Speaker, Shannon Patton. Shannon is the   Director of Community Engagement at CMHA - Regina Branch, and has, “a demonstrated history of working in the health and wellness field.”
Using Power Point slides, Shannon introduced us to the Branch's work in supporting people in Regina and area who are challenged in having to live with mental illness. The Branch has a registered member (client) list of 1,300 person. As with all organizations in the province, the Coronavirus has created havoc for the people who work in these organizations and certainly the people they serve. In the case of the 1,300 CMHA Regina Branch members, closure of the Branch on March 17, 2020 meant they were losing their "home". Coming to the Branch provided clients with a reason to go out - it gave life a purpose. Closing the facility has the potential for members to revert to their former life style - a live of isolation, addiction, homeless-ness, etc.
And the sun will rise!
Shannon spoke about the impact of COVID 19 on the staff and how they have responded in dealing with this new reality. Unable to meet face to face, much of their interaction with client members is through the phone. This has its own set of challenges as not all of their members have a phone and therefore are difficult to reach.
Working in partnership with other agencies in the City, CMHA - Regina Branch is helping address matters of Food Security and Safe Shelter in the Regina Community.
To, appreciate Shannon's complete story, please "click to watch" on the ZOOM bar at the top of page 1, and be inspired by how the CMHA Regina Branch along with other service organization are adjusting to the world's current reality.
Mental Illness and Homelessness
Thank you Shannon Patton for focusing our eyes to your important work.

Philosopher's Corner

"We are all in this world together and the only test of our character that matters is how we look after the least fortunate among us. How we look after each other, not how we look after ourselves, that’s all that matters, I think."
