ANNOUNCEMENTS
President Jack is scheduling an Adventure in Agriculture 2019 “de-briefing” early in January 2020;
Pat Dell, Club Administration Director, invited members to put forward Speaker suggestions for our weekly meetings for the remainder of the Rotary year;
District 5550 Conference 2020 - May 21-24, 2020 in Kenora, Ontario.
Today’s meeting was billed as a “Fellowship” opportunity and it was a delightful way to move into the 3rd decade of this century. So the absence of a speaker or a pre-planned focus for our gathering, we relaxed in a format of what initiated Rotary back nearly 115 years ago – fellowship.
In the Rotary world, January has been designated Vocational Service Month. In the weeks, months and years following the February 23, 1905, 4-person meeting, organized by Rotary’s Founder Paul Harris in Chicago, dreams of what would “one day be”, were explored. Key to their conversation, and equally relevant today, had to do with the importance of one’s vocation and how this would be reflected in this new member organization. Over time, the place of “vocation” was defined in the Object of Rotary. Pre-empting the 4 familiar statements the, “Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of worthy enterprise”.
Conversation set the Stage for a "Fellowship" Meeting
A central goal of Vocational Service is to promote and advance Rotary’s high ethical standards. Should you be looking for two useful tools we have to assess these standards check out The Four-Way Test and The Rotary Code of Conduct.
Vocational Service Month calls every Rotarian to:
Aspire to high ethical standards in their occupation;
Recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations, and;
Contribute their vocational talents to the problems and needs of society.
So we start this New Year with these as our continued “resolutions”. Welcome to 2020!
