BUSINESS AT EASTVIEW MARCH 18, 2021

Jean-Marc announced that the AGM will be held April 15 at noon.  It has been delayed while the slate of officers was filled. President-Elect Pat Dell now has a full slate of officers. Members are invited to participate in a meal catered by Legacy on April 15.  Jean-Marc will email menu options and those wishing to order a meal may do so.  It will be delivered the day before the meeting.  Cost will be around $20-30.  Watch for Jean-Marc's email for details.
Jean-Marc's report: Congratulations to Hans Gaastra who will be the new club PR Director.  Hans and perhaps others will provide details on weekly meetings as the link will no longer be posted on the website.  Announcements from Presidents' Council-The Regina Club is holding a virtual 50/50 draw this month.  Industrial Parks is meeting virtually once a month.  They and the Regina Rotary family are saddened at the loss of their member, Rick Roland, due to COVID.  Our thoughts are with Industrial Parks at this sad time. R. C. of Oskaya held a chocolate Easter fundraiser.  Father Lorne is President-Elect.  We wish Father Lorne well.  Eastview shared their Strategic Plan, their April 15 AGM and their potential vegetable sale which is in the early planning stages. Other news from Jean-Marc: The District is encouraging all clubs to recognize indigenous lands at meetings and events.  If anyone has concerns please let Jean-Marc know.
Directors' reports: Only those reports available are reported here: Membership is happy to report two prospective members to Eastview--Russ and Donna Parry transferring from R.C. of Regina South. Club Service--on behalf of Director Cory Daly, Jean-Marc reported that speakers have been scheduled to April.  The Director will assist with Admin tasks related to the Strategic Plan. Treasurer--Doreen Pankewich reported (1) that our Foundation has been denied charitable status by CRA.  All youth programs are not deemed charitable by CRA. Further consultation will take place with the assistance of a professional under the direction of Ron Okumura. (2) Doreen also reported that Club finances are in a good place due to the lack of spending in some areas during this COVID year.  Details were briefly outlined on the financial situation in our club. In Jean-Marc's words we are 'sitting pretty'.  Ann Grahame reported from Youth Services that two students will attend MUNA in April and one student will attend Adventures in Citizenship in May.  Ann attended the NAYEN (North American Youth Exchange Network) conference.  A strong emphasis was placed on Social Media.  This will be further discussed with Hans Gaastra, new PR director.  Fundraising: Charles Sadzamare spoke about the potential vegetable sale and partnership with CO-OP.  He has requested advice from some whom he named.  International Services--Peter Peters reported a zoom meeting was held with the Rotary Club of Retalhuleu in Guatemala.  Computer installations are complete but the monitoring and evaluation component will be completed once students are back in school. Multi tasking Peter also reported on the Rotary Foundation and that our club has reached the $50/member requirement to qualify for District Grants.  This contribution was made by 29% of our members.  65% of our members contribute to at least one Rotary program.  A motion was made by Gary Carlson to approve all reports as submitted.  Carried.
THANK YOU JEAN-MARC AND DIRECTORS FOR THIS UPDATE AND YOUR HARD WORK ON BEHALF OF EASTVIEW

The Family of Rotary
It is with District wide sadness that the Rotary world learned of the death of PDG Clare Thompson (1931-2021). Clare passed away on March 12, 2021, just 7 weeks following the passing of his wife, Elaine. A member of the Rotary Club of Dryden, Clare and Elaine served as District 5550 Governor, and First Lady in 1996-1997 under the RI Theme banner, Build the Future with Action and Vision. It was a Theme built for this delightful couple whose home served as a welcome respite for those of us who followed them on our own District Governor journey. Clare Thompson was a “gentleman’s gentleman” and a Rotary pillar in his Club and the Community, a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a Rotary Foundation Benefactor, and was recently granted lifetime membership in Rotary. Should friends desire, donations may be made in Clare’s memory to The Rotary Foundation.
Thank you, Clare Thompson, for your quiet, gentle way of demonstrating the meaning of “doing good in the world”.  Thank you to Peter Peters for the information on his good friend,  PDG Clare Thompson.

A story from Clare--see more at

A Clare story was on the admittance of a woman into the club. He told us: “It wasn’t until 1989 that women were allowed to join Rotary. Rotary International had just made the statement that clubs may allow women into their clubs as long as the laws of their country allowed it. We had many discussions about allowing this to happen. I was very much in favor as I thought it would increase our membership. As you can see, this didn’t happen. Our numbers at that time were almost identical to what they are today. There were several members against allowing women members into the club, but when the vote was taken it was in favor of opening our membership to women. One member in particular, was adamant he jumped up and said that the day a woman joined our club he would quit. At the next meeting, I nominated his wife for membership. On the night of her induction, I had a cake made with his name on it saying he would quit if a woman joined. And we made him eat his words”

       FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
Jean-Marc paid $20 for unknown transgressions he might or might not commit.  Sergeant Pat Dell complimented Toshi upon learning he would celebrate a birthday on March 24.  He noted he isn't quite 70.  He was fined for looking younger than his age and the rest of us were fined for a reason that was not clear.  There were many happy bucks from some who have had their vaccine shots and happy bucks from others who have a future appointment.  Ann thanked Toshi for picking up recycling for a friend.  Doreen thanked Toshi for delivering money for the recycling.  Sam was happy/sad that he will attend his last practicum this week at Caronport.  Sherry assisted an elderly person to attend the vaccine clinic.
Have a great week everyone.
