ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Today was Regina Eastview's initial venture in a "Hybrid" meeting format - 10 of an anticipated 13 members gathered at The Rotisserie Restaurant, while another 12 ZOOMed into the meeting;
  • Some meeting kinks were experienced (like those  in the restaurant speaking not being close enough to the laptop to be heard by the ZOOM participants);
  • The above short fall will be addressed for the next meeting as well as having a large screen in the facility to enhance "hybrid" interaction;
  • October 24, is World Polio Day - see Business Meeting (below) for details on how this is being celebrated in District 5550.

BUSINESS MEETING - OCTOBER 2020!

President Jean-Marc led us into our Club's "hybrid meeting" experiment, and from initial reaction it was reasonably successful from the vantage point of both on site participants and those joining by ZOOM. COVID 19 sensitive distancing, was in place. Following are some of the Business Meeting Highlights:
1. In preparation for 2021 outdoor cooking season, members are encouraged to take the Food Preparation Training Course (Ann Grahame);
2. Remember, each member is asked to bring at least one person into Rotary this year. (Jean-Marc Nadeau);
3. The new look Valentine GALA 2021 planning Team is working on sponsorship and PR promotion and will be ready to implement promotion in early January 2021;
4. Weekly speakers are arranged until early November - send Cory Daly your speaker suggestions;
5. Eastview will be "celebrating" World Polio Day on October 29th with Guest Speaker PDG Pat Chernesky, D 5550 Polio Plus Chair. If at all possible, each member is asked to donate $20.20 (because it is 2020) to Polio Plus on or before October 29th - please make your donation to Club Treasurer Shannon Windrim, who will send this on to The Rotary Foundation. The amount collected will join the $1,500.00 designated for the Program as part of the Club's International Service Projects annual commitment (Peter Peters);
6.  November 5th is the delayed Change over meeting and President's Social at the Royal Golf Course - more information to follow (Pat Dell);
7. Members are reminded to contribute their (empty) bottles, cans, etc. to the Regina Eastview account at any Saskatchewan SARCAN Depot (Charles Sadzamare);
8. Club is looking to initiate a Community Garden on the Wozniak property next spring - right now the search is on for manure (fertilizer), as a first step to a bumper crop (Jack Wozniak);
9. The Membership Committee is hoping to set up an opportunity next spring to show case Regina Eastview to potential new members (John Van Koll);
If you have questions on any matters referenced above, please contact the member indicated.
This was a great information sharing experience. Thank you all!

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day.
This initiative is to increase awareness of the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
Excellent resources to help your club promote hand washing with soap in your community can be found at GlobalHandwashing.org
The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF are jointly calling for action to achieve universal hand hygiene. They have released a document that outlines why handwashing is important and a framework on how to achieve this.

  • Richard Schwan offered up $200.00 to cover the $20.20 Polio Plus target for members not able to meet this challenge - "tip of the hat", Richard;

Philosopher's Corner

“Self control is strength.
Calmness is mastery.
You have to get to a point where your mood doesn’t shift based on the insignificant actions of someone else.
Don’t allow others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow your emotions to overpower your intell-igence.”          Morgan Freeman
