Pat Dell is exploring with the Delta the conditions of our returning to the hotel for noon luncheons. Please let Pat know if you are prepared to attend luncheons at the Hotel during the pandemic.
President Jean-Marc stickhandled the September 2020 Business meeting with skill and respect. He noted the timing for this business was ideal as the Directors met last evening and this presented an opportunity to share important details from that discussion. Jean-Marc initiated the conversation by emphasizing the two major agenda items for the 2020-2021 Rotary year are Membership and Fund Raising. We learned the District lost nearly 90 members last year and thus far in this year, 5 new Rotarians have been inducted, one of which is Eastview's Lori Smith.
In the absence of Membership Director John Van Koll, who is a currently a Committee of one, is looking for a number of members to assist in developing a strategic plan for the recruitment of members, while ensuring the retention of current members. The Finance members will focus on working with the Fund Raising Committee to build up resources so the Club can carry on with projects in 2021-2022, while continuing to pursue achieving charitable status.
On the Project side, Ann Grahame reported that e-RYLA may well be the only Youth activity to take place in this Rotary year. Consideration could be given to selecting a Rotary Exchange Student for the 1-Year Exchange Program but look for a grade 11 student who would be set to go in 2022-2023. Youth Services requires a number of additional committee members. Doug Archer Community Services Chair reported their Committee is liaising with the Canadian Mental Health Association - Regina Branch in an effort to address the integrity of the CMHA building which houses their services and programing initiatives. To address this challenge, Architect and Rotarian Dave Edwards is assisting the Committee to put together a plan which will address the building challenges, will set the stage for developing a fund raising plan. Peter Peters, Secretary of the Club's International Service Projects Committee noted that the project to enhance the washroom facilities at the El Corcho school in Guatemala will start in the next few weeks; the computer installation in 20 schools in partnership with the RC of Guatemala West is complete, with these installations being monitored until early in 2021 when it is anticipated a final report will be prepared and submitted to The Rotary Foundation. ISP Committee is looking to serve as District 5550's Lead Club in the District's 3rd Computer project in Guatemala.

Kevin Hayes, PR Director, is working with the Regina PR Committee and will serve as our Club's liason assisting Eastview's Committees with their PR challenges. At this point archiving complete ROTORs has been identified as a matter to be addressed. Charles Sadzamare indicated his focus is on selecting 2 or 3 fund raising initiatives which includes a "Valentine GALA -With a Difference". Doreen Pankewich shared details of this initiative which will be shared with all the Club in the coming weeks. The Ham Sale was successful last year and will again be undertaken. As a closing item Jean-Marc advised that in response to Louis Browne leaving the Club the Board has named Laurie Hutchison as the Club's female Harassment Officer, and Peter Neufeldt as the male Harassment Officer.

Basic education and literacy is one of The Rotary Foundation’s six areas of focus and an area into which Regina Eastview pours much of its service energy and financial resources. We know that basic education and literacy are essential for reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace. The above is one of probably 10 Annual District and/or Zone 24 Literacy Awards Regina Eastview has received largely at the coaxing and encouragement of Ann Grahame the District Literacy Chair.

In Pat Dell's absence Jeff Barber stepped up and using his "gifts" swelled the bank balance with support from:
Sam Berg who proudly announced that he and Erika are the grandparents of the perfect Sophie Rose;
Ann Grahame praised the Regina Public Library for featuring in a ZOOM podcast format a presentation by the well-known marathoner, Martin Parnell, retired engineer and author of "The Secret Marathon", who is obviously an inspiration (kudos to Jeff & Co.);
Doreen Pankewich expressed her appreciation to the Board for the wonderful Board meeting in Pat and Glen's back yard - the fellowship and sharing was fantastic, the meeting focus was on the "important", the food superb and collectively reminded us of the importance of Rotary in our lives;
Charles Sadzamare was thankful that his daughter is back home in Zimbabwe after 2 weeks in quarantine;
Jean-Marc Nadeau is having a wonderful holiday and their youngest daughter is at University (on-line), so their empty nest syndrome has been delayed for 4 months;
Jeff Barber told us that their daughter is back at University in Education and has hinted that "coming home" could be in the Barber's future; and last week he and Nancy celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary - Congratulations!
