JUNE 2021 BUSINESS MEETING!

    Over the course of this Rotary year, President Jean-Marc, held to his commitment to keep the membership informed on what is happening at Director Meetings by holding a Monthly Business meeting. Today was the day to talk about last Week's Director meeting.
    The President's information pieces were reported in the Announcements. On the matter of Membership, Allen Hillsden reported Al Hoeft will be joining the Club on July 1 as a transfer from the RC of Edmonton.
    From Treasurer Shannon Windrim, and Associate Doreen Pankewich, we learned all Club Investments and Accounts have been transferred from the Conexus to Affinity Credit Union; By June 30th we will have closed all matters related to creating a Club Foundation; Membership Dues ($185.00) need to be in the Treasurer on or before June 30th - so far 20 members have paid - if you need an invoice please contact Shannon.
    Ann Grahame reported on the difficulty in recruiting students to attend RYLA and Adventures in Human Rights. Conversations on Youth Exchange have noted the cost of participation in Short and Long Term exchanges has increased t0 $4,200.00 and $7,200.00 respectively. The Club will hopefully be in a position to advertise for an Out-Bound Student for the summer of 2022.
    In Doug Archer's absence, President Jean Marc spoke about Community Service Projects Committee work to re-invigorate our decade plus partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) -Regina Branch. Working with CMHA and an Architect, it has been determined the building is basically sound but needs enhancements in the range of $300,000.00.  Club Directors accepted the Committee's recommendation that the Club commit $5,000.00 a year in each of the next 5 years to this project. Our Club's commitment will be matched by the Archer family. Positive feedback on this planned support for mental health services in our community. It was noted Regina Eastview's signs on the building need to be enhanced. This year's contribution to the CMHA Regina Branch partnership was $7,000.00
    On the International Service Projects Committee, Peter Peters expressed the need for us to become more deliberate on reporting on our activities and keeping members informed on what we do in all our service areas - youth, local and international.
    Peter Peters reported the Club's per capita contribution to the Annual Programs Fund of TRF has reached $101.73, down for the $126.00 last year. 29% of our club contributed to this fund this year, while 60% of our members contributed to Polio Plus. There is still time to make a donation and have it captured in this year (see below).
    Charles Sadzamare, our Fund Raising Chair, noted bottle and can donations have slowed down - he encouraged members to check with their neighbors. Jizinge Mwela and Ted Kent are making headway on the vegetable sale initiative and are focused on locally grown produce. The 5 Regina Rotary Club Restaurant Gift Card Raffle is being coordinated by the All Clubs PR Committee is gaining steam and it is projected there will be a profit at the end of the day.
    Thanks to all of today's presenters - I hope the above is close to right. Corrections are welcome. Thanks to each of our members for your individual contribution, which is reflected in our collective outcome.

The Family of Rotary
I picked up the following on the RI Zone 28/32 Facebook page early this week posted by my Rotary friend  Doug Vincent from Ontario.
"In light of all that is going on in our troubled world, I think these words still ring true.
Love is an action not just a feeling and loving one another is actively working on understanding, accepting, and embracing one another, even when we strongly disagree.
Hate destroys, but love and compassion through action, can mend what is broken.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sergeant Pat, who got her 2nd shot, fined visiting Rotarian Bob Durston because of some unexplainable infraction - in Bob's amicable way his $25.00 donation went to the Annual Programs Fund of TRF - always a good "fine" focus;
  • President JM was $10.00 HAPPY that Montreal won last night - for that amount he predicted that after the next 2 games (which are in Montreal) the series will be 3 to 1 (in JM's favour of course);
  • Richard Schwan, matched the President's donation, happy got his 2nd shot, happy about the hockey game, although his preference was to have the Jets playing; his happiness extended to the fact that he and Sharon purchased a cottage where relaxation is supreme;
  • Sam Berg told us that he and Erika got their 2nd shot - he was less enthusiastic in his support of the remaining Canadian team in the NHL play-offs;
  • Jeff Barber spoke to the importance of The Rotary Foundation, suggesting it is a wonderful Charity which advances Rotary's commitment to "do good in the world";
  • Hope to see you all next week.
