CLUB BUSINESS MEETING - AUGUST 2021!

President Pat Dell indicated we do not have a speaker this week as today is the regularly scheduled monthly Club Business Meeting. It is here where members will be updated on the matters discussed at the Club's Director meeting held in Pat's back yard last Thursday. Up-dates were as follows:
Golf tournament preparedness - John Van Koll presented a positive overview of tournament and dinner (see above). Golf and dinner payments have largely been by e-transfer. Organizers are being very COVID conscious ensuring as distancing suggestions are maintained.
Membership - Director John Van Koll is hoping to induct our newest member, Zack Dumont, at the Picnic on Sunday.
Club Administration - Director Donna Parry reported that speakers have been booked to the end of October. She is working with the Eastview Community Centre to hold our first face-to-face in their facility on September 16, 2021. Stay tuned for details.
International Service Projects (ISP) - Secretary Peter Peters reported ISP has received approval for their recommendation of distributing the allocated $8,700.00. The first component, $1,000.00 is being directed to ShelterBox Canada. He encouraged member contributions to ShelterBox (see Announcement above). Sector Barrios school awaiting cadre's virtual inspection;
Youth Service Projects - Chair Jack Wozniak absent and President Pat reported it was decided that because the pandemic is still part of life, the holding of the Adventure In Agriculture Program has been delayed until the fall of 2022.
Fund Raising - Director Charles Sadzamare reported that the fall vegetable sale has settled on limiting the packaged bundles to 3 vegetables - potatoes, carrots and onions. Hope to set up tables at 2 sites during the Thanksgiving weekend.
President Elect - Jeff Barber reported the Directors had a conversation on including reference to Land Acknowledgement at our regular meetings. To get a broader understanding of this matter, Jeff arranged to have John Currie, our regional rep for Rotary's HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples), to speak to us and facilitate a Q and A at our regular meeting on September 2nd.
Unfortunately a number of the Club's leadership team were not available at today's meeting and so there was no report.

BACKPACK PACKING

Above are Allen Hillsden, Toshi Shinmura, Russ Parry who were joined by Donna Parry, Doreen Pankewich and Shannon Windrim as Regina Eastview's contingent of Regina Rotarians in last evening's hands-on Salvation Army project. Each backpack was "packed" with school supplies that will be an appreciated blessing for recipient  students in the City as they prepare for the new school year. Hats off and thanks to our Club’s representatives.

The Family of Rotary
  • Regina Rotarians were saddened last Saturday to hear of the passing of Rotarian Russell Shoeman, a charter member of the RC of Regina Oskaya. Russell epitomized “Service Above Self”. As I listened to the sharing by his Club members, family and friends at Oskaya’s “Celebrating Russell’s Life”, at Monday evening’s ZOOM gathering, his place in their hearts was clear – loved, appreciated, honored. Russell will be remember for his humble gentleness and quiet optimism. Peaceful rest, my friend.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • We were saddened that Sergeant Richard Schwan was not in attendance - it did catch the President "off guard", but not for long;
  • Each Backpack Packer received a virtual Rotobuck - Congratulations to the "Mighty 6";
  • Happy dollars came from Ann Grahame, as James and Karen were flying into Regina today, about which she was excited;
  • Peter Peters was proud to report hockey playing grandson Ty, was sent to the penalty box for the 2nd time in his career because of coaching misdemeanors;
  • Al Hoeft was happy to report that a house full of grandchildren have left the Hoeft home and blessed quietness has returned;
  • Joyce Butler shared this grandparent counsel, for the morning grandchildren are leaving the grandparent home, "load them up with sugar" (probably one should be very sure their leaving is dead certain);
  • Have a wonderful week - see you Sunday.
