March is Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Month in Rotary.
At 12:03 President Jayna Amadasun invited us to 'order' by acknowledging, and welcoming, with enthusiasm, all visitors and members to the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview's February 26, 2026 ZOOM meeting. In her Land Acknowledgement Statement the President expressed our appreciation for the kindness of the people who welcomed us as participantsin taking care of the land we refer to as our home. Gail Bradley shared a combined Words of Wisdom / Rotary Foundation Moment, centred on the theme of enthusiasm. Happy dollars were shared.
Jeanne Alexander and President Jayna worked together on introducing our Guest Speaker Linda Restau. We learned,Linda is a Registered Nurse who has a master’s degree in health studies. She has over 40 years of experience working in a variety of nursing and health-related management positions leading up to, and including, CEO of one of the former Health Regions. Linda has worked in the public system throughout the province, as well as for a First Nations Community. She is currently under contract with Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism (SSM) working on a variety of programs areas, which she highlighted in today’s presentation.
The SSM is a non-profit volunteer based, member umbrella organization whose MISSION is to: ‘Unite seniors’ organizations to improve the quality of life for seniors through research, advocacy and coordinated services’. This grounding goes to realize their VISION of: ‘Quality of life for all older adults in Saskatchewan.’ The work of SSM is divided into 4 components Programs, Initiatives, Resources and Advocacy. They receive funding from Government which is turned into Grants, which support older adults to live independently while exploring new approaches for supports and services.
Funding applications are scored in regard to innovation and rationale; alignment and partnerships; feasibility and efficiency; evaluation and goal clarity; and, sustainability and replication.
A significant focus of SSM is on 'Celebrating Seniors', which includes the annual celebrating of older adult volunteers, at Awards and Banquet events. The call is out for nominations of seniors in one of ten categories, which includes the envied 'Century Club'. Nominations can include photos and stories so nominees can be appreciated, thanked, and applauded for their commitment and willingness to share themselves. The celebration itself incorporates a guest speaker, entertainment, a celebration of all the nominees, a great banquet and finally the Award. We were advised nomination must be received by Friday June 12, 2026.
SSM has announced the Celebrating Seniors event will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. This is the opportunity to honour the efforts of older adults who contribute significant time and effort to help others are recognized. Contact information:

SYMBIOSIS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY - ROTARY'S
9th PEACE CENTER
Leaders of Rotary International and Symbiosis International University gathered in Pune, India, to inaugurate a new Rotary Peace Center at the university. Supported through The Rotary Foundation, the center will provide experienced peacebuilders from across Asia with one-year professional development certificate fellowships to study subjects such as conflict transformation, sustainable development, and social change.

“With India’s rich diversity and complex social landscape, the peace center will offer unique opportunities for cultivating leaders who can navigate conflict with empathy and innovation,” says Bharat S. Pandya, a trustee of The Rotary Foundation and member of the Rotary Club of Borivli, Maharashtra, India. “This center will nurture a new generation of leaders in Asia who are dedicated to strengthening dialogue, understanding, and sustainable peace.”
It was GREAT to have 20 people on today’s call – thank you all for making it so.
President Jayna put out a call for Happy Dollars, and this is what we learned:
Jeff Barber warned us for months that things were a changing in the Barber family dynamic and we have waited for The Announcement. Today Jeff found the words and said, ‘Two weeks ago I became a grandpa’. Evangeline (lovingly referred to as E V) was welcomed into the Barber family – Congratulations, Jeff and all – it just keeps getting better.
Peter Neufeldt finally got his snowblower fixed and now has the enjoyment of moving all the snow which found its home on the Neufeldt driveway 8 days is now on the front lawn area.
Ann Grahame told us about her 15 year old granddaughter, Georgina, who just returned from a 1 week school class 'mission' opportunity to Mexico. Happily they were in a part of Mexico that did not have vehicle fires and riots in the streets - welcome home, Georgina.
Allen Hillsden expressed his happiness with all the visitors we have joining our meeting today.
On that point, and looking forward to next week, please join the Rotary Club of Regina at their in-person Delta Hotel meeting next Monday, March 2nd.

It was good to welcome to our meeting Guest Speaker Linda Restau. Visiting Rotarians included PDG Fred Wright (Kenora), Bob Durston (Neepawa) and Carole Bryant (Regina). It was good to have Patrick Nduka, a visitor interested in Rotary, participate in our time together. Thank you all for enriching our day.
