NEWS FROM THE ISP COMMITTEE
On Wednesday evening this week, the ISP committee met via zoom with the Rotary Club of Retalhuleu in Guatemala. For some time, the two clubs have been working on the WINS project (Wash in Schools Project).
The following notes by Peter Peters summarize the meeting. Peter noted that at our First ZOOM Meeting on April 19, 2022, Retalhuleu representatives identified their preferred next project was a water, sanitation and hygiene project for a cluster of schools in their area. These schools were sites of previous Ripple Effect projects.
A week later Mike Espana provided Eastview with 9 power point slides which described the project and the potential positive impact this would have on the lives of 1400 children and their respective communities. Recognizing the importance of a safe water source, clean and safe toilet facilities and the focus on education and hygiene, Eastview’s ISP Committee explored the possibility of moving this project forward with the Canadian Ripple Effect Committee (CREC). In September Mike advised the Project received a $25,000.00 gift from District 4250 Endowed Gift Fund, and $10,000.00 from the RC of Encinitas Coastal (District 5340, California, USA) with some potential to receive supporting District Designated Funds (DDF) District 5340.
Based on this information the ISP Committee presented a proposal to the Regina Eastview Club to support the project in principle with initial $20,000.00 cash from the Club.
When advised that DDF from the California District was not possible Eastview was pleased with the financial support received from CREC and Rotary Clubs in the District 5550, which allows for work on the Global Grant Application to proceed. The estimated cost of the project is now just over $113,000.
Another meeting will take place in May. It is estimated the project will take about 2 years,
