July is Transition Month in Rotary International's World - on July 1st of each year Rotary at the International, Zone, District and Club levels "transition" its' respective Leadership Team to a group of selected members to carry out the plans to move us ever closer to reflect Rotary's Vision - Together, we see a world where people unite to take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves;
Welcome, President Al Hoeft and Regina Eastview Leadership Team, as you lead us in RI President Gordon McInally's themed year to, Create Hope in the World.
In keeping with Regina Eastview tradition, usually the first Friday of the new Rotary the Club holds its annual Lorne Piett Memorial Golf Tournament at the Tor Hill Golf Course. Year. So it was on July 7, 2023 the Piett family gathered from all around with Regina Eastview members, family and friends, to participate in this historic event.
Fifty golfers, the event's main attraction, were looked after by the tournament organizing Team headed by John Van Koll and Pat Dell, the former being the "weather selector", who seemingly tunes into the Creator's weather plan. It is understood John asked for something comparable to last year, except not quite as hot and less wind would be great - "and so it came to pass". Not to be forgotten is a team of dedicated volunteers who gather from early in the day to its very end, work with Golf Course Staff to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.
On this occasion, four generations of Piett’s came and reminded us all of the place Great Grandfather Lyle has in the Piett and Regina Eastview Rotary families. Each person who golfed in this even will have their own interpretation and memory of the highlights, so I'll not cloud that with a non-golfer view, only to say it was an appreciated and loved family gathering.
The day, at least the Regina Eastview portion, concluded with a wonderful 5:00 P.M. dinner, during which participants were encouraged to bid on a variety of Silent Auction items. Finally, golfing prowess was revealed and prizes were presented to each of the foursomes. It seems only appropriate that the Tournament Trophy was presented to a foursome led by Lorne Piett, and supported by Greg Laturnus, Dennis Helmeczi and Nick Blevins.
Thank you all for making this a great day of togetherness
Dennis Helmeczi, Lorne Piett and Bentley (for Nick Blevins)
MY CALL TO ACTION
(Excerpts from President's Message
in July’s “Rotary”)
"Peace isn't a dream, and it's not passive. It's the result of working hard, earning trust, and having open conversations that may be difficult. Peace must be waged persistently and -- bravely. Everything we do across our areas of focus has the potential to foster the hope that can make peace possible."
RIP Gordon R. McInally
"Let us build peace within and spread it freely. Let us create belonging and imagine the future of Rotary afresh. Let us work together joyously and Create Hope in the World."
The Family of Rotary
Volunteerism is a cherished Rotary focus which here resembles a publically funded work crew - but only momentarily - it is the get ready for "Golfer arrival".

Today's guests
There were guests and there were visitors, who gathered for an array of purposes - to golf, to fellowship and enjoy each other’s company, to raise funds, to remember a Piett family patriarch and a friend of all Lyle Piett.
