THE REGINA PHOENIX RESIDENTIAL SOCIETY

Today's Regina Eastview's guest speaker was Sheila Wignes-Paton, Executive Director of Phoenix Residential Society in Regina, who shared with us the types of services and support they provide to their clients. Functioning under a Mission, "To provide recovery oriented services that foster empowerment, promote hope, and build connectedness in the community"; the Society is focused on a Vision of, "Strengthening Community by Supporting Recovery".

"Phoenix Residential Society is a charitable non-profit community based health care organization providing psychosocial (psychiatric) rehabilitation services to persons in the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region with psychiatric disorders, concurrent disorders (psychiatric & substance abuse), persons with acquired brain injury (ABI) and other cognitive disabilities."

Sheila Wignes-Paton shares the Phoenix Resiential Society StoryChange
The Society's 30 full time, along with a supportive group of part time staff, work to oversee the services provided to over 170 clients; clients that present with a broad spectrum of Psychiatric and other health needs. Clients are assisted with skills of daily living; they learn problem solving skills; how to manage their medication; and, basically assist with what ever is required.

A big supporter of Regina's "Housing First Program", Phoenix Residential Society understands that housing is critical in making a difference in the lives of homeless persons. Housing provides a "hand up" and is a major step in restoring the dignity of an individual, who, until this need is met, is consumed with: "Where will I sleep? What will I eat? How can I stay healthy? How do I avoid the police?"
As one client expressed, "I am like a Phoenix - I arose from the ashes!"

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
Gary Carslon presents President Jack with Club Banner from the RC of Penticton, which Gary visited recently.
And here are some additional highlights of  today's fellowship:
  • We appreciated today's visit from the RC of Regina Past President Michell Zaba - always nice to rub shoulders with youngsters from other clubs;
  • For a Regina Eastview first, Barry Strohan led our members in welcoming our visitors with our Welcome Song;
  • Wearing a cap during lunch is fine worthy, as is interupting the Sergeant-At-Arms during her report;
  • Should you ever happen to be in Milwaukee, USA, Sam Berg suggests you tour the Harley Davidson Factory and Museum - you will just want a bike;
Other stuff happened but, "you had to be there".

Hope to see you all next week!
Mitchell Zaba invites participation in
RC of Regina's Golf Tournament.

Philosopher's Corner

A little girl was holding two apples, her mother asked for one. The girl quickly bit into one apple and fhen the other. Her mother held back her disappointment. then the little girl handed one to her saying, "Here, this is the sweeter one".
Moral - never judge!
