MELONY MATERI, DIRECTOR -

THE CARING PLACE!

President Jean-Marc called on Rotarian Sam Berg, a Counsellor at The Caring Place to introduce our guest speaker Melony Materi. We learned that Melony was recently selected to serve as Executive Director for The Caring Place.  Prior to her appointment, she served as Executive Director for the Options Pregnancy Center.  Melony's personal journey has given her insight into various mental health areas.  Insights she has learned to use in helping hundreds walk through the painful process of emotional healing - a loved and appreciated audience are the thousands of students she has touched.  Through her work, she shared at Post-abortive workshops at the United Nations, New York City, in 2006 and 2007; she has traveled to Zambia and Uganda, sharing her life story and working with orphans.  She is passionate about helping people recognize the emotional wounds that hinder the joy in their lives.  She is author of the book ‘Will You Go? A Journey to Emotional and Spiritual Freedom.’
Melony Materi shared her personal story, which from the outside sounded like a roller coaster of "downers". A life which caused Melony exceeding pain and anger, or anger and pain, but regardless of order, needed to be addressed. Having dealt with the hurt and pain, Melony Materi takes her story, and a box of wooden blocks and speaks to the need to develop ways to name and take steps which will replace the pain and hurt blocks with "love" blocks. The point Melony makes is that when your box is full of hurt and pain, there is no room for "blocks of love" and therefore you can't "receive" love. If one cannot receive love, you cannot love back", and so the cycle of despair continues. To young people who tell Melony that their parents do not love them, she encourages them to consider maybe, "their box of pain has no room for love", and that their parents too, need to address the root cause.
Connecting her story to The Caring Place, Melony made the point that this is an organization which has 9 Counsellors, like our Sam Berg, help adults and children work through their emotional pain and hurt.  Her observation is re-enforced by their Mission Statement, which in part indicates - TCP provides a place of safety and trust where all people of any age can find a caring professional to help them deal successfully with personal issues, mental health challenges or addictions. This is supported by the 5 specific Program detailed in their Website at:  https://www.thecaringplace.ca/programs
Melony Materi, you are a wonderful and passionate Ambassador for The Caring Place and it was a privilege to have speak to us today.
Melony Materi, Executive Director, The Caring Place
