ADVENTURES IN AGRICULTURE 2025 - 'A IN A' REINTRODUCED!
President Al Hoeft called the November 28th meeting of Regina Eastview to Order and welcomed members and guests which consisted of 19 Rotarians, 2 guests and 13 Adventures in Agriculture (A in A) students and 4 Rotarians who joined on ZOOM. The President took a moment to introduce A in A students to Rotary, reminding us all of our Club's acknowledgement of Country, Land and a "Higher Power", which we respect and honor. These components were addressed in the order identified, by joining in the singing of O' Canada, President Al's sharing our Land Acknowledgement statement, and Peter Neufeldt's invitation to ask the blessing on our gathering and the food set before us. Maybe it was the number of visitors, but certainly the crowd was respectful as they lined up at the banquet table as one would expect of dignified Rotarians and appreciated visitors.
After the meal, President Al expressed appreciation to the Planning Committee for their dedication in bringing A in A 2024 to this exciting point of welcoming the re-introduction of the program - a program that has been silent since A in A 2019. He acknowledged with appreciation the partnership with the Rotary Club of Regina added necessary person power and involvement to the planning process and resultant organizational details and action steps required. While Planning Committee members are familiar with student activities,  Rotarians not involved in the planning were not, so President Al provided an overview of student involvements to this point and what they will experience in the next 4 days.
Students traveling by air arrived at the Rgina Airport before lunch and were taken out for lunch at Houston Pizza on Hill Avenue (there is a story here) following which they gathered at Jeff and Nancy Barber Condo, Club House (there is such a place). This was a get to know one another place, which was supplimented by having Allen Herman, a gifted youth leader led them in 2 learning opportunities: i) roping techniques and the rodeo circuit (critical knowledge when a rodeo); and, ii) mathematics and how it is essential to successful agricultural practices (clearly useful learnings).
Thursday began with presentation by Affinity Credit Union financial planning which was followed by a session at Agribition in concert with ‘Agriculture in the Classroom'. Now with a luncheon with Rotarians and guest of the Rotary Clubs of Regina and Regina Eastview. And an afternoon at Agribition seeing all there is to see followed by the rodeo. On Friday students will visit Mazer Group (New Holland in White City followed by a visit to Redhead Equipment east on #1, followed by a Toastmaster Workshop. The afternoon will include presentations from Canadian Food Grains Bank and Nutrien, concluding with the student preparing an Indigenous meal under the direction of a renowned Indigenous Chef. Students will then attend the RCMP Heritage Centre where there will be a guided tour of the Museum. On Saturday the students will be at the U of R for a “time of Agricultural Experiments with Dr. Chris Yost, followed a presentation on Food Security and lunch seems an appropriate combination. In early evening the students and their home hosts will be at Government House for a tour and dinner. Sunday morning students, home hosts and others will be at Luther College for student speeches, award presentations with the Minister of Agriculture and a concluding lunch. From here students will be departing for home via plane or automobile.
A in A 2024 Students appropriately Surrounding President Al Hoeft

Peter Peters was invited to introduce each student from information he gleaned from their application, highlighting there expressed reason for having been selected to participate in this potential career defining 5 days. In his concluding remarks, Peter commended the students for their interest in the Adventure in Agriculture program, for choosing to be in Regina, and for simply re-enforcing for our members that this activity underscores Rotary's commitment to doing good in the world. From his Grandfather perspective, Peter concluded with the observation that there are a host of parents and grandparents exceedingly proud of the loving youth they have sent to be our honoured guests.
