REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING & AGM!

Today was an important day in Regina Eastview's May calendar, for it was the regular monthly Business Meeting, but with the added twist of being combined with the Club's 2020-2021 Annual General Meeting.
    Using Power point slides, President Jean-Marc, began by sharing a list of Club highlights - events and intiatives undertaken by the Club over the past 10 1/2 months. The unique and successful Valentine Gala was a great fund-raiser in addition reaching persons who might not otherwise have been participants. Ham sales increased which was also positive. He touched on the International Service Projects which included supporting the Hippo Roller 1000 Garden Projects sponsored by the RC of Winnipeg. Having 5 new members added to our Club is certainly worthy of celebration.
    The President reviewed the Strategic Planning development touching on our Vision, Mission and Strategic Focus which will be, "geared towards developing youth to become future leaders of our society". Jean-Marc shared a list of initiatives (fund raisers and projects) which are in various stages of development but will hopefully unfold in the coming months. This included a "fellowship" garden project in addition to a market garden type initiative in concert with Sherwood Co-op. A joint 4 Rotary Club Restaurant Gift Card raffle has just started and will hopefully generate some enthusiasm.
    Doreen Pankewich and Shannon Windrim were invited to review the Club's tentative Budget for 2021-2022. With their shared talent, Shannon and Doreen provided us with a brief overview of the current financial situation and projected June 30th year end picture. There is an anticipated $ 2,800.00 surplus at year end which was reduced by $1,800.00, because at the last Directors meeting it was agreed that $1,000.00 be for the purchase of 4 Hippo Roller Kits noted above. In response to a reduction in District Dues, the president elect is not wishing to attend the International Convention in Houston, Texas in 2022, plus some planned minor fundraising initiatives, the planned membership dues for the coming Rotary year will be reduced by $100.00 to $185.00.
    There was discussion on the proposed budget proposal which would see the elimination of funding to send future President's Elect to the International Convention. With the understanding that this was a budget for the coming year and that excluding this particular line in the budget was not a "precident" for future years, the motion to accept the Budget for the Rotary year 2021-2022 was approved.

2020-2021 Regina Eastview AGM
    President Jean-Marc presented the list of members who will serve as Officers and Directors. One of the challenges you may have is reading the fine print. However, please know that according to the Nominating Committee, those listed agreed to be so identified.
    Thank you Pat Dell, Jeff Barber, Richard Schwan, Jean-Marc Nadeau, Alllen Hillsden and Doreen Pankewich/Shannon Windrim for your willingness to be our Officers.

5 YEAR TRF CANADA / GOVERNMENT OF CANADA PARTNERSHIP CONCLUDES
Regina Eastview was one of a number of Clubs in District 5550 that were the beneficiaries of funding support from the following partnership, highlighted on the Zone 28/32 Facebook page.
    The Rotary Foundation – Canada and the Government of Canada (Global Affairs Canada) have completed a remarkably successful partnership that saw over US$15 million invested in 143 Global Grants. These grants changed the lives of countless children, improved the health of people in numerous communities, and laid the groundwork for economic improvement in regions of the world challenged with poverty.
    This initiative has concluded. Post COVID discussions will continue with the Government of Canada on a possible future partnership. A small number of grants have not been completed due to COVID. Thank you to everyone who worked to make this partnership a success.
5 Year TRF Canada/Canadian Federal Government Partnership
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sergeant Pat Dell handed out a few virtual Rotobucks to those members who were in their gardens digging in the soil;
  • in the search for 'happy dollars', Victor Wiebe had a happy $10.00 because the president failed to acknowledge his Birthday, thereby saving us all the torturous experiencing of hearing the happy birthday serenade  - this is taking one for the team;
  • Shreedhar was happy to tell us that he and Shashikala are celebrating their 65th Wedding Anniversary today - Congratulations on this wonderful togetherness milestone;
  • Doug Archer was exceedingly happy and gave $20.00, for the gift of, "being back in the land of the living", after spending some 12 days in hospital - nice to see you back, Doug;
  • Pat had some happy dollars - no amount was mentioned, so it was probably substantial - as she and her girlfriends are "retreating" to Nipawin to golf this weekend;
  • Peter Peters attended the May 19th Meeting of Regina Oskaya and brought greetings from their members including Cory Daly;
  • Wishing everyone a fine "spring" week - see you next week..

Philosopher's Corner

"Well, we have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, a little more loving, and have a little more empathy, and maybe, next year at this time we'd like each other a little more."
                              Judy Garland

President Jean-Marc was pleased to acknowledge the presence of Jessie Carslon, guest of husband, Gary; and Visiting Rotarians Bob Durston, RC of Neepawa and Carole Bryant and Doug Keam, from the RC of Regina.
