It was great to be at the Delta for the 2nd last meeting of Regina Eastview for the 2025-2026 Rotary Year. 20 Rotarians chose to be at the Delta and 7 Rotarians joined us via ZOOM. President Jayna Amadasun extended a warm welcome to all those gathered and drew only passing attention to the weather. Allen Hillsden led in the singing of the national Anthem and Peter Peters share a blessing on the attendees, the meal, and need to remember and support those less fortunate in our community and around the world.
Before allowing attendees to get to the buffet line President Jayna invited Tania Woroby, Regina Eastview's connection with the Amarok Society's international Mother's First Program, to share a recent letter the Club received from our Club's Mother / Teacher Sathi Akter, in the city of Khulna, Bangladesh. In her letter shared Sathi shares how the education she received as a Mother/Teacher has impacted her confidence and courage to take into her heart and home the raising of her newborn nephew because the child's mother died giving birth to a set of twins. Using Rotary language, doing good in the world does not have boundaries.
Post lunch, President Jayna called on Jeanne Alexander to introduce our Guest Speaker. There is a consistent theme reflected in RI President Francesco Arezzo Thought for the Day (below), the above Mother-Teacher Sathi's story, and our guest Speaker Ev Bishop, an award-winning USA Today bestselling author, who believes in the power of stories transform lives. Stories change the world and the way we live. Author Ev Bishop is best known for small-town Contemporary Romance and Women’s Fiction, readers describe Ev Bishop's books as “full of humour, love and wisdom,” set in places “where breathtaking scenery and the magic of love are the best medicine for the soul.” Our Guest is a member of Novelists, Inc. (NINC), Federation of BC Writers, and the Saskatchewan Writer’s Guild. She is honoured to be Regina Public Library’s Writer-in-Residence from January – June 2026. Jeanne, in turn noted that we are honoured to have Ev in our midst today to share stories and insights which will enlighten us in the role and work of a Writer-in-Residence.
Ev Bishop began by referring to the letter Tania read from Sathi Akter, which connected us with another human being. She noted that while every story is unique, everyone has one to tell. A Writer-in-Residence, she explained, helps people share their stories. Ev said she hoped each of us would go home reflecting on how her story connected with our own lives. She emphasized that libraries are wonderful places that invite people to come in, learn, and discover more about themselves. Ev admitted that writing 20 books is quite a lot, but she has other stories to tell, and wants to pass down her history. She suggested each person will come to the place in their lives when they wished they had asked their parent a question about ‘what was it like’. She is intentional about passing down to her children her own history. Her own mother passed away at a young age, and her father passed away within a short period of time and Ev realized there are so many things I do not know about my parents. Our guest suggested we all have desires to be known and understood, and if we’ve ever wanted to share our story, then now is a good time to get started. It is like the person who had never played pickle ball but got started and it brought hope and joy to her life. Writing your story is like learning to play pickle ball, once you get started it spreads hope and joy. If not now, when? It you want to write do it now – tell your story – that gives hope to the next generation. After all those are the lives you have changed and inspired.

The above was part of a message from The Rotary Foundation which resonates with the hearts of Regina Eastview members. Two of the 1488 Global Grant projects noted originate from Regina Eastview with support from clubs in District 5550. The Guate III Computer Program has seen the installation of 20 computers in each of 16 schools opening the world of technology to hundreds of children in Guatemala. The second Global Grant is the WASH In Schools Program in seven Guatemalan schools. Each school was provided with consistent water supply, safe toilets and hand washing stations and hygiene education impacting 1400 school children. This initiative contributes to improved school attendance of girl children

FAMILY OF ROTARY
Regina Eastview's family increased with the induction of Cleon Rowel as our newest member.
On site attendees had the opportunity welcome Cleon into the club and if you were not in the room on this occasion do extend your hand to our news member.
Cleon, who is in the banking business, was a former member of the Rotary Club of Comox in RI District 5020 in British Columbia.
Always nice when Regina Eastview Charles Sadzamare attends our meetings as he often brings a guest as he did on this occasion.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
It was a meeting of Highlights which included;
Tania Woroby's sharing our Club's Amarok Society's Mother/Teacher, Sathi's letter to the Club detailing her courage and strength of character in assuming the role of mother for her orphaned nephew;
Presenting new member Lorna King with recognition and pin for becoming a Paul Harris Fellow;
