President Jayna Amadasun called the usual orderly Eastview members and the appreciated visiting Rotarians to a more orderly order at 12; 03 P.M. She extended a warm welcome to members and visitors alike to our ZOOM meeting. Our President next reordered our Club's usual order of business by first sharing our Land Acknowledge-ment statement. This would be followed by a video in which PDG Eva Vida presented to clubs in 2024, on The Rotary Foundation (TRF), which Jayna found educational and impactful. Through the use of Power Point slides, the presentation touched our President by its value in addressing the challenges at home and abroad. Here are some of the learnings from the presentation.
In looking at Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus, PDG Eva touched on the significance of how her own Club addressed each of these areas, not necessarily with the same passion or investment, but rather how each is touched in a significant way. This observation carries with it the encouragement to examine what Clubs are doing, and ensuring they recognize the value in this, to the recipient impacted. PDG Eva was able to show her Club how their donations were distributed depending on the donor’s wishes. If donations were to the Annual Programs Fund, these would be invested for three years and then 50% returned to the District, for redistributing in accordance the District established process for projects in the District or internationally through a Global Grant. In Regina Eastview this would be like the District Grant we received for Chili For Children program; or, if it was a Global Grant like we received for our WASH project in Guatemala. A key point of the Annual Programs Fund is that 91% of donations goes to projects, with 9% directed to fund raising and program administration.
Stewardship is key to TRF. For the last 15 consecutive years TRF has achieved 4 STAR Status with Charity Navigator, a USA based Charity rating system. TRF Canada is seeking enrollment with a comparable Charity rating process in Canada. PDG Eva spoke about how donations are meticulously recorded and followed. Rotarians are encouraged to make TRF a charity of choice, and in the process experience how donations to TRF are returned to the community for redistribution to local and international projects.
What might I, as a member of Rotary do? From PDG Eva's presentation, I got the sense that becoming a TRF Sustaining Member is an important first step. This means becoming an annual contributor of $100.00 (US) to TRF's Annual Programs Fund. This can be achieved by participating via Rotary Direct and donating $15.00 (CAN) each month.
PDG Eva concluded her presentation by encouraging Clubs to record how much the Members contribute to Rotary and specifically to the Annual Programs Fund and how much the Club gets back. PDG Eva also reminded us of the importance of tracking our members volunteer service time through Rotary, in our Clubs, Community and international.
