FEBRUARY 2023 MEMBER APPRECIATION DAY!

In keeping with Rotary's 118th Birthday, President Jeff Barber was keenly aware that this was a day, when appreciation of members, was to be central of all meeting activity. So it unfolded in that manner.
Upon calling the 16 persons gathered at the Delta and the 6 members checking in on ZOOM to order, our "guest" was recognized and welcomed; the Land on which we were Meeting was Acknowledged; Happy Birthday was sung to Rotary International; President Jeff turned to celebrating members of the Club who have helped us all to better visualize this Motto of, Service Above Self.
First, to be recognized was Club Rotary Foundation Chair Gail Bradley, recognized for her support of the Rotary Foundation and was Awarded a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow (PHF+2). Jeff explained that on making a donation of $1,000.00 (US) to The Rotary Foundation, the Foundation recognizes the donor as a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF). With each subsequent $1,000.00 (US) donation, the donor becomes a "+1, +2, +3 etc.” Congratulations, Gail.
The second Rotarian to be recognized was Ron Okumura, for his 25 years of Service through Rotary, Ron served as Regina Eastview's President in 2015-2016 and for many years served as Co-Chair of the Club's Valentine GALA Co-ordinating Committee.
The third member President Jeff recognized was Clarence Krause, who for the past 40 years served through Rotary. For many years Clarence served on the Club's Finance Committee and since 1999 has demonstrated courage and tenacity when Multiple Sclerosis challenged his mobility.
President Jeff's final recognition took the form of a New Member Induction, a highlight in every Rotary Club, as they welcomed in new person in to our world of Service Above Self.   In this instance the new member is Richard Heslop, who was introduced to Regina Eastview late in 2022. Richard's interest has been consistent as he has joined in many of our meetings since. Richard is a Health and Safety Officer with Westridge Construction. In his observation, President Jeff touched on the Object of Rotary, which is to, "... encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of worthy enterprise... ", and specifically how this fits into our lives in our community, our, vocation, our Rotary Club, and in the international stage. He also reminded, Richard, and each of us, that we should hold on to the dictates of Rotary's Four-Way Test, to guide us in our daily walk.
Once Richard was declared a member of the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview, we lined up and individually welcomed him into our worldwide community.

MEMBERSHIP MINUTE
Recent Rotary research confirms that the club experience is what matters most to our members. Everyone plays a part in making sure that members have a fulfilling, enjoyable experience. When members feel welcomed and included, are given opportunities for personal growth and leadership development, are able to make meaningful connections, and are contributing to service, they are more engaged and more likely to remain active in their club.

The Family of Rotary
  • Richard Taylor shared with members that Avril Jones, a Charter Member and currently an Honourary Member of the Rotary Club of Regina Oskaya, passed away earlier this week. Avril was an Out-Bound Rotary Exchange Student sponsored by Regina Eastview. I like to think it was this experience that inspired Avril to make a difference in the world. Using her education and teaching talent, she opened the eyes of students, wherever the classroom - in China; the Northwest Territories, or Hodgeville, Saskatchewan - to the world. Thank you, Avril. You made a huge difference.

FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Hans Gaastra was able to "feel" for the right colored marble in the box full of marbles in the 50/50 draw - he came up "blue" - no winner;
  • Happy dollars came from Sam Berg because, as I understand, he and Erika came back from "time-share" experience--somebody else owned the "share", which from Sam's pastoral perspective was very fine;
  • Gary Carlson was delighted to tell us that last weekend they hosted a lady who in 1982 was an Regina Eastview In-Bound Rotary Exchange Student who lived with the Carlson's for a period of time;
  • Ann Grahame told us about Anna Lena--a young lady from Germany who stayed with her years ago will be visiting her soon;
  • Peter Neufeldt was most pleased with $16,000.00 raised at the Valentine GALA 2023;
  • Doug Mortin took a moment to express appreciation to Peter Neufeldt and Doreen Pankewich and their "Merry Band" for their dedication to the GALA task and for the wonderful outcome;
  • Regina Eastview just made it to "3 Richard's";
  • Have a wonderful winter week - see you on ZOOM next Thursday.

Philosopher's Corner

In the absence of selected quote at today's meeting this observation from a recorded interview of Paul Harris as detailed in Honoring Our Past: The Words of Wisdom of Paul Harris:
"The way to war is a well paved highway, and the way to peace is still a wilderness."
