  • A Board meeting will be held tonight at 5:15.
  • The District Conference will be held virtually on May 13-15.  Please register.  The fee is only $50.

If anyone has left over seed potatoes let Pat Dell know and she will pick them up.

MOVING FROM COVID CRISIS MANAGEMENT TO POST COVID CHANGE MANAGEMENT WITH GUEST SPEAKER, JEANNE MARTINSON

It was good to welcome former 20 year Eastview member, Jeanne Martinson, back to an Eastview meeting.  Jeanne is a diversity strategist and author of more than ten books.  She has a Masters degree in leadership from Royal Rhodes College in Victoria and a diploma in organizational behavior.  We know first hand of Jeanne's many talents.
Jeanne outlined the Crisis Management message that employees have been receiving over the past year due to COVID.  There was no time to analyze or plan tasks, no guarantee of employee safety, no legal requirement, 'there is no choice just do it!'  Now, Jeanne advised, there is no time to wait until COVID is over to think about changing to a post COVID management plan.  What should or should not be reset?  How should members/employees be persuaded to accept the new plan?  What will be the employee push back of the plan?  There were a number of expectations of employees working at home--'the geography' of your home--others' needs in the home e.g students on e-learning and, learning and dependence of technology to name two. Examples of decreased safety and serenity are: increased domestic violence, workplace bullying via technology, increased anxiety and frustration.  People had many questions about the new norm--which vaccine is best, do masks work, sorting out conspiracy theories from scientific evidence.  Workers went from personal surveillance to software surveillance.  How will that change? In the new environment post COVID, an employer will need to demonstrate the value of the change or reset to the employee/organization.  Employees will be asking for a guarantee on job security, compensation for use of their home work space and assistance in deciding on their personal plan.
This was a great presentation.  Be sure to watch the video to hear the full discussion.  Thank you Jeanne for this information. Even though many of us are retired we are wondering about these issues and how they will affect our friends and family..  It is always good to see you!  Take care!

Building progress on the Sector Barios School
The following information was submitted by Peter Peters (with great excitement he noted): "In response to my request yesterday in the forenoon Andreas Lanz (Pas Pres RC of Retalhuleu) for some recent construction photos, Andreas provided the above picture.  I am excited about the progress made since our joint meeting on March 1st. This when one realizes they were shut down for 14 days."  Thank you to Peter and International Services Committee for their dedication to this project.
The Family of Rotary
  • Many joined in singing Happy Birthday to Pat Dell.  Happy Birthday Pat.  The singing, though we need practice, comes from the heart. Another COVID birthday!
  • Pat Dell offered the following information to those who are trying to stop an email from going to SPAM; hover your mouse over the address of the specific email and select an appropriate choice e.g. welcome or save from SPAM--it will be a message similar to this.  Thanks Pat.
Founder of Rotary--Paul Harris,  On April 19 we celebrate the 153rd anniversary of his birth.
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sergeant Pat took exception to our singing of Happy Birthday to her.  She fined everyone $2 who sang.  Was it that bad??  She fined everyone $2 who did not share their Easter eggs with her -- so far things were not going well for us!  Happy bucks included: Jean-Marc is happy because his wife received her vaccine as a health care worker. A show of hands indicated that many members have had their shots--has anyone noticed that this is the one and only time it is good to be old??  Laurel is happy because a person (skilled in human resources) is joining her office; the Sergeant is happy as she is getting her shot tomorrow.

Philosopher's Corner

"If today gets difficult, remember the smell of coffee, the way sunlight bounces off a window, the sound of your favourite person's laugh, the feeling when a song comes on, the color of the sky at dusk, and that we are here to take care of each other."
